This week's post ...

Animal Collective
Brother Sport
new single 9 November
Another fine cocophony of sound from Animal Collective. the 133bpm 'Brother Sport' rattles along through five and a half minutes somewhat reminiscent of Arcade Fire and could pick up some serious airplay and dent the chart too. Fine record

Bombay Bicycle Club
Always Like This
new single 23 November
A superb single, BBC's best yet. The 122bpm 'Always Like This' jiggles alongh seductively, lyrically superior, it's irresistable.

The Chapman Family
Virgins
new single 19 October
The Chapman Family follow-up 'Kids' with another short sharp lyrical explosion. The 172bpm 'Virgins', flavoured with their Teeside accent and a rough and tumble production courtesy Dan Swift of Art Brut, Kasabian & Futureheads production and recording credits. Coupled with the 155bpm 'Feel The Hurt' there's a sense of Arctic like urgency to this band which could well kick off big-time. Good tunes.

Fighting Fiction
A Lesser Of Two Evils
new EP 16 November
"Reggae tinged rock guitar riffs, socially aware lyrics" describes Fighting Fiction's debut release. Four trax featured are short sharp choppy affairs ...
the 111-222 bpm title track is an appealing two minute opus, followed by the 2'20" 98-196bpm 'Cameraphones, the 94-190bpm 3'20" 'You Mean The World To Me'
and the 2'40" 102-204bpm 'Sanctuary'. All four tracks utilise double paced chorale parts and there is a sense of urgency which may stand out for radio programmers. Fine debut.

Young Rival
Your Island / Got What You Need
new single 26 October
A couple of choppy tunes on this new CD from Canadian band Young Rival. The short sharp 147bpm 'Your Island' demonstrates their offbeat sound .. and at two minutes could pick up some tidy extra airplay. The other A-track the 140bpm 'Got What You Need' at 3'30" should also do nicely.

This week's Top 40 ...

Top 40 Sun 25 Oct 09

Cheryl Cole takes straight to the top 'Fighting For Love' ... Ashley look out. It's the fastest selling single of 2009 with 290,000 sold this week. Ms Cole replaces Alexandra Burke at the top, Ms Burke's 'Bad Boys' became fastest selling single of the year last week with 185,000 sold. She won't be too disappointed as her album 'Overcome' has gone straight to the top of the Album Chart.

In the US, London boy Jay Sean has regained the top spot from Britney's '33' with his new song 'Down' released in the UK this week.

Young Soul Rebels 'Warchild' charity single is nin at 10. In 1995 the debut 'Warchild' single was released, a duet from Bono & Pavarotti on a haunting specially written song 'Miss Sarajevo', the then Yugoslavia fighting a divorce war to become Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia Herzogovinia. This year good cause aside we rate this track an absolutely pointless, horrific recording of the classic Killers song 'All These Things That I've Done' retitled 'I Got Soul' but I'm not a soldier. Aimed at raising awareness of the 300,000 children who are in deed 'Soldiers'. Musically this track is so soul-less N-Dubz singer Tulissa has said she'd never heard the song before recording it. What's she been doing for the past four years, is the divide that big? Killers seem to be a Conservative kind of a band and even David Cameron used the song at the Tory party conference. Fine to make a donation but forget a soon to be, like next week, useless download.

Foo Fighters, Christina Aguilera, Cobra Starship, Alphabeat, Calvin Harris and Paulo Nutini's strange 1920s style 'Pencil full of Lead' make up the rest of this week's crop of new tunes.

Still ill

We wish Morrissey a speedy recovery, he collapsed on stage over the weekend at a rearranged gig cancelled earlier in the year because of illness.

True or false

At this point it seems quite reasonable to quote Caine (David Carradine) from Kung Fu in 'The Third Man' episode "I seek not to know all the answers but to understand the questions." Here's news of a couple of things that will change your life irrevocably....

From 9 November the Metropolitan Police will be patroling London's streets armed with Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine guns capable of firing 800 rounds per minute. Now that's what I call 'respec', it's true, it's even in The Sun - read the page here.

A former Tony Blair adviser and speech-writer says Labour's immigration miscalculations have been presented as a cock up quite deliberately. Quoting the Daily Telegraph "Labour has encouraged mass immigration to help socially engineer a "multicultural" country and to try to rub the right's nose in diversity according to Andrew Neather, a former advisor to Tony Blair." It's true - see the story on Sky News here and see the Daily Telgraph coverage here, last paragraph

I don't recall any mention of that in their manifestos of '97 and '01 when I cast my vote for them. And what is that - some kind of fraud, treason or just a oh well.

Wonder how many other policies are pretend cock-ups?

Stage managers eh

And, there you go ... 8 million viewers up from two and a half million - it's a disaster.

A whole array of stage managers out flanked, "More than 240 complainants to the BBC felt the show was biased, while more than 100 complaints have been about Mr Griffin being allowed to appear on Question Time in the first place. However, more than 50 people contacted the BBC to show their appreciation for the programme."

Some questions submitted but not used on Thursday's British Broadcasting Corporation Question Time...

On the Post dispute, what should happen to the Royal Mail and the 300,000 Post Office workers?

Does the panel think we can trust the man who said Iraq had weapons of mass destruction to be the first President of Europe?

What happened to the new Ice Age we were promised thirty years ago?

Are the climate change predictions likely to be more accurate than the weather forecasts?

Who is the most legitimate leader
a. Afghanistans elected President Kharzi or
b. Britains unelected Gordon Brown?

Which of these broken promises has been the most nasty lie ...
a Conservative Ted Heath's promise to have a referendum on membership of the Common Market if he was elected Prime Minister in 1970 or
b. Labour Tony Blair's promise to have a referendum on Europe if he was re-elected Prime Minister in 2005?

Would either of the above lies qualify as a 'big lie' in Hitler's definition?

Why has Tory leader David Cameron chosen now to launch his discriminatory 'women only' candidate lists?

Why should a democratically elected Government feel the need to have secret policies?

Are security lapses at Buckingham Palace being used to remind the Royal family what happened in Russia?

If Labour's objective is chaos, have they achieved it - Is that the reason for their smug appearance

Maybe next week .... don't hold your breath.
