This week's post ...

AFI
Medicate
new single 12 October
Much requested AFI featured at Leeds & Reading festivals and return to the UK for a full tour in the new year. In the meantime a single from the band's eighth album 'Crash Love' is due on 12 October. An edited 3'40" version of the 186bpm 'Medicate' should keep the fans happy and pick up some valuable airplay.

Brand New
Daisy
new album 21 September
Following their shows at Reading & Leeds, Brand New will be playing their biggest ever UK show at Wembley Arena on Saturday 23 January 2010 ... hang on ... yes 2010 .. two ten ... two thousand and ten ... 2010 ...hmm. 2010 could be their year, this new album features the top single 'At The Bottom' and is packed with new gems like opener 'Vices' which starts as a scratchy old early twentieth century slow tedious piano led musichall bint and morphs into twenty-first century guitar screaming wild abandon. Future singles? Well how about 'Sink' and 'Bought A Bride'. Top

Golden Glow
Golden Glow EP
new EP 19 October
If you like Joy Division, Interpol, or Editors you'll probably love Golden Glow. Former Manchester band Lead Balloon's front man Pierre Hall has struck out in a new name 'Golden Glow' with a stripped back sound on three new tracks which resemble a Felt like sound. All very dark and atmospheric, the 139bpm 'Adore Me', the 130bpm 'The Cure' and the 122bpm 'Streetlighter'. File under good potential.

Helene
Escalator Carry You To The Stars
new single 19 October
Well this is it .. a superb listen .. the light airy, sexy vocals of Helene Dineen on three of her self penned accoustic pleasures, "the best lyricist" in the land says Simon Raymonde. Lead track the 140bpm 'Escalator' is a worthy single followed by the mellow 109bpm 'Solipsister' ... interesting new word ??? Then the teasing, tantalising 64bpm 'Keys To The Kingdom'.

Johnny Foreigner
Criminals
new single 26 October
Mamagroup signings Johnny Foreigner have played sell out shows at Mamagroups Cardiff Barfly, one of them in October 2008 will live in my memory for a long time.
"The whole town's run by criminals ..." seems a particularly topical tune in these days of mp's inflated expenses and soldiers missing military kit. I can think of more evidence! Johnny Foreigner are in the same bracket as Los Campesinos and unfortunately it's a bit hard to see where these shouty types can go from the shouty type of thing they do. If you do like it, it's great and if you don't like it - it does rather polarise you .. to put it kindly. On the other hand there's nothing wrong with 'thrash' shouting about criminals running the town so maybe 'Criminals' will make the break through the band need.

Rise Against
Savior
new single 19 October
Rise Against mean it - one of the biggest compliments you could pay any artiste. They're also a hard hitting rock band in the truest Rage fashion. 'Savior' is another biting single and I can't help feeling if the charts had remained a physical singles only entity it would be the latest in a list of several Rise Against top forty hits. Fine band fine record.

Viarosa
Tourniquet
new single 12 October
Big surprise .. this is a superb track. Viarosa had the unusual honour of having their music featured in Cannel 5's recent documentary on Charles Manson. Needless this is another of this week's darkly atmospheric's .. Viarossa though have an extra something about them on this superb track featured on their second album 'Send For The Sea' - the three and a half minute 83bpm 'Tourniquet' has a mellow accoustic guitar strumming intro, the arrangement and Richard Neuberg's vocals are from the highest order of Verve-ness! Two six minute tracks complete this CD - 'Ode To Sunlight' and 'Ballad Of The Self Made Man' - which are very much more an aquired taste. Very interesting

This week's Top 40 ...

Three P's in A Pod, Justin Waite, Steve Martin & Pete Pete

Top 40 Sun 13 Sep 09

Gosh, jeevers, Pixie Lott gets a second straight number one! Mika, Mini Viva & Muse power into the top ten while Temper Trap make steady progress climbing 14 to 15.

U2, Shakira with Livvi Frank & Pitbull complete the seven new entries.

Beatles Week has seen millions update their fab four collections with the newly released digitally remastered versions. So much so that The Beatles have four of the top ten albums: 'Sgt Pepper' at 5, 'Abbey Road' at 6, 'Revolver' at 9 and 'Rubber soul' at 10. Amazingly, Second World War forces sweetheart Dame Vera Lynn has beaten all to Number One.

In America 'I Gotta Feeling' it's the Black Eyed Pea's number one for a 13th week.

7 new entries & 1 re-entry – 3 up, 27 down, 2 non-movers

Dai, Welshy & Waite
Red Dragon listeners will fondly remember Dai on Jason Harrold's Breakfast Show (pictured far left with chums) - a big listener winner transfer in missed by the current Dragon management.
After four years as Johnny Vaughan's London sidekick, Dai aka Welshy returned to the Principality last year to work on short films.
He landed a job with the mainly automated indie regional station Nation Radio and low and behold Dear Old BBC Wales have finally spotted his abilities.
4pm Sunday afternoon 'What's The Story' a quickfire panel game somewhat akin to 'Have I Got News For You', a well written half hour masterclass that showcases his sharp wit and an excellent production.
Dai aka Welshy aka Justin Waite has produced a radio winner that's ripe for transfer to BBC Wales TV now. Check out the last episode of the series this coming Sunday & you can listen to last weeks show by clicking & surfing onto
BBC Wales 'What's The Story?' page here

No Wogan or Woss
So Chris Evans is the new Breakfast man at Radio 2, presumably Monday to Friday and indications are a three hour programme probably meaning bad news for Sarah Kennedy. Previous speculation that Jonathan Woss would replace Terry was wrong. Twenty years ago Woss went on record as saying the BBC should axe Wogan as younger listeners can't relate to him, now he himself faces similar criticism. There once was a maxim that time revealed as a guiding light against mistaken prejudice ... live and let live ... ah that was a long time ago.
This means that Chris Moyles, born three years after Wogan started on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show will never catch his elderly rival, however, with mass defections of Radio 2 listeners discontented at Tel's replacement Chris Evans, Moyles should finally get Radio 1 to Britain's number one Breakfast Show for the first time since Simon Mayo in 1992 - a very big achievement and potential revenge on Evans who seemingly humiliated Moyles by sacking him from the TV show Evans himself gave him.
What's been the secret of Wogan's success? Well, in this excerpt from his 1981 book 'The Day Job', he makes it sound so simple ..

Lights Out
We got a pretty spooky view of what a City Centre would look like without street lights when the things mysteriously turned off at 3am on Sunday morning. A chilling prospect to gaup at as darkness tookover except for shop lights. They were on again half an hour later so maybe it was a power cut .....

then again we do seem to be running out of power and now the Russians seem to be coming to the rescue. Check today's enlightening report from the Press Association...

"A Russian state-owned nuclear firm is attempting to break into the UK market with direct approaches to British firms, it was reported today.
Atomenergoprom is thought to have made contact with British Gas owner Centrica and manufacturing giant Rolls-Royce as it looks to become a major player in the UK and beyond, according to the Observer. The firm has already signed a joint venture with Toshiba, whose Westinghouse subsidiary runs the UK's main nuclear manufacturing site, Springfields, near Preston. It is understood that the group, which has access to Russia's uranium mines, has already provided some fuel to the Sizewell plant in Suffolk.
Atomenergoprom executive director Kirill Komarov told The Observer: "There are some negotiations, or rather contracts, with British companies"

Product placement
So ITV have finally persuaded the Gov to allow product placement ... now just the small task of attracting and persuading viewers.
