This week's post ...

Flymore
All The Time I Bled
new single 26 October
Russian band Flymore are leading the charge into the Western market. Hailing from the city of Ivanovo, originally called Millenium they were signed by Red Star Music which has become a second home for Eastern European rock. The 94bpm 'All The Time I Bled' is a standard 94bpm rocker which should score some big new interest.

Kid Cudi, Kenye West & Common
Make Her Say
new single
Lady GaGa's 'Poker Face', a song she says about her imagining she was with a woman while having heterosexual sex, has now got the inevitable reply from the boyz in da hood. The 74bpm hip hop gem 'Make Her Say' features 'Poker Face' scratched in by A-Trak and includes verses from Kanye & Common. Worthy of a top ten hit for Kid Cudi whose 'Day N Nite'
made number two earlier this year. Fine tune.

Placebo
Battle For The Sun
new album
Placebo return on top form with their stunning new album 'Battle For The Sun'. Instant faves are the 136bpm 'The Never Ending Why' and the thoughtful 115bpm 'Julien'. Then there's the superb opener the 77bpm 'Kitty Litter' , title track 'Battle For The Sun' and the climactic 91bpm 'Kings Of Medicene'. An excellent return.

Sergeant
Sampler
new album
A good collection fo material from Sergeant for their debut album, solid no messing indie/rock, should do well.

Snap!
The Power - Greatest Hits
new album 19 October
All the hits and a superb array of remixes, our fave being the Armand Van Helden remix of 'Rhthm Is A Dancer' which must be heading for top forty success a fifth time since it's chart-topping release in 1992. A great collection and an essential addition.

Stereophonics
Keep Calm & Carry On new album 16 November

Stereophonics show no sign of slowing their industry. Having just played a sold out gig at Cardiff Castle to 12,000 fans who lapped up their classics alongside this new album. The twelve tracks of 'Keep Calm & Carry On' - a phrase from a World War 2 poster - are produced by Kelly Jones and Arctic Monkeys producer Jim Abiss. Confidence must be high for a top five album and possibly another number one to push them further ahead in the Welsh success chart. Five tracks included on this sampler include new single, the chirpy 145bpm 'Innocent', an upbeat 'Local Boy' lyrical-esque tune (no such word... there is now). Then there's a the 138bpm 'I Got Your Number' - with melodic keyboard line it's kind of similar to Muse's 'Uprising'. The mellow 69bpm 'Could You Be The One' demonstrates Kelly softer side while the 155bpm 'She's Alright' and the 113bpm 'Beerbottle are standard Stereos. There's a lot of pressure on lead single 'Innocent' out a week earlier on 16 November, the band must surely get the top forty success their last single missed out on, their first miss since 1997. Good return.

This week's Top 40 ...

Top 40 Sun 18 Oct 09

Alexandra & Flo Rida's ballad of her hopeless surrender to 'Bad Boys' in at Number One with 180,000 sales - that means 'Oopsy Daisy' last weeks chart-topper from Chipmunk drops to 3 behind Robbie Williams new song 'Bodies'. With sales of 90,000 Rob's a new entry at 2, it's Robbie's twentieth top five hit in a thirteen year solo career, it would have been his seventh number one.

The 2009 record ten new entries also include Lostprophets at 14, Mr Hudson at 20, Editors single 'Papillon' at 23, Black Eyed Peas 'meet Me Halfway at 26, Big Pink's debut hit 'Dominoes' at 29, Jennifer hudson's cover of the Jennifer Holiday 'Dreamgirls' classic 'And I'm Telling You' at 32 and Medina's debut hit at 39.

Further congratulations are due to Brummies Editors who helped Jonny Wing launch the newly refurbed 02 Academy in Birmingham last month and have gone straight to the top of the album chart with their new LP 'In This Light & On This Evening'.

In America, London boy Jay Sean's 'down' is down, immediately replaced at the top by Britney Spears new song '3' which achieves another record for Ms Spears - it's not usual for records don't go straight in at number one in America ... well now Britney has two having done just that, reports of her demise were more than a little premature!

10 new entries – 4 up, 24 down, 2 non-movers

Week Unique

Beat the recession with something rising in value ... Harrods are selling blocks of pure Swiss gold at £300,000 each.

Or according to the Daily Mail like the so-called Lord pictured above put your dosh into a collection of Patek Philippe wrist watch's - the Reference 5146 he's alleged to have worn at Conference has a retail price of £21,490.

Brown's on about the climate catastrophe again ... shame he's not as worried about the Downing Street disaster. This week Afghanistani's will get the chance to see what we Brits mean by democracy. They, like us will be able to evaluate it's worth. Thursday looks likely to be as significant as the day Sinn Fein and others were banned from broadcasting in the UK - coincidentally 21 years ago - 19 October 1988. Perhaps as significant as the day in 1945 when Winston Churchill claimed Labour would need a Secret Police to govern "no doubt very humanely directed in the first instance".

Hard working Posties all over the UK have been undermined time and again in recent years. They must be wondering how with the workers party in government they find themselves treated so badly. Since Labour forced the Post Office / Consignia / Royal Mail to axe 60,000 plus jobs we take bets on delivery times. Yes, remember Consignia? It was renamed for no apparent reason and now we know why - they hoped we wouldn't notice. A European Union dictat to destroy Her Majesty's Post Office that's served us through nearly 400 years since it was founded by King Charles in 1635.

The Communication Workers Union leadership seem so cowed by the thought of losing Labour the election, they're reluctant to connect Royal Mail management with it's Government masters instructing it. Mandelson wanted to sell off more profitable Post Office activity, now with Thursday's planned strike he won't have to - TNT, UK Mail and others will benefit immediately.

This has to be up there with Labour's most notorious betrayals of it's 110 year existence. So clandestine a deed that this month 96 per cent of the communication workers voted against continued affiliation to the Labour Party. Peter Mandelson, Boss of Business? It's doubtful whether any 'champagne' Socialist wearing a £22,000 wrist watch would have a postman's interest at heart.

Heard & not seen

Former Red Dragon FM Engineer & Swansea Bay Radio DJ Rick Ward is delivering the travel news on BBC Radio Wales ... flawlessly!

Why's 6 afraid of 7.... because 7 8 9.

County out of Exile?

Along with Newcastle United they've the joint second best defensive record of the 158 clubs in the top seven divisions of the English pyramid system, better than Man United, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool - only Leeds United have conceded less - five. I hate to tempt fate by drawing attention to it but Newport County deserve recognition for their fantastic start to the season. Now undefeated in 20 league games, Charlie Henry blasted The Exiles to Saturday's 1-0 victory at St Albans to stay top of the Blue Square Conference South. They have a superbly impressive defensive record having conceded only one goal away from home since August. Adding the five conceded at home that's only six conceded in all twelve league games so far. 581 saw County win on Saturday, compared to a total attendance of 2,687 for all nine Welsh Premier League games.
