Cage The Elephant
In One Ear
re-released single 6 October
As a pre-release we number one'd this back in January, originally released as a single back in March, one of the bands of the year return with what should
become an enormous hit for them this time round. 'In One Ear' is a storming three minute slab of pop rock, blistering vocals and supreme production. Out on CD, 7" and download, you may have seen these newly arrived Londoners supporting QOTSA, Foals, Subways, Simple Plan and Pigeon Detectives. Lured to Blighty from Bowling Green, Kentucky for the bright lights of London Town and maybe the chance of singles chart success being greater, especially as their great 'Ain't No Rest For The Wicked' itched the Top 40 in the Summer. The entire album is well worthy

The Coral
Singles Collection
new album 15 september
The floorfilling singalong 'Dreaming Of You' sets the tone on this sampler which also includes the hits 'In The Morning', 'Pass It On' and 'Jaqueline'. Perhaps
with this best of collection under-rated The Coral's best times may be about to arrive

The Cure
Perfect Boy
Remix new single 13 September
It's classic Cure again, but the punters bless 'em in large numbers simply prefer the 'Inbetween Days', 'Friday I'm In Love', and twenty five years on the
irresistable off beat 'Love Cats'. It's going to be hard for the band I fear

Elbow
The Bones Of You
download only single from 29 September
At 3 minutes a surprisingly short sharp shock from Elbow, nevertheless their distinctive irony blasts away the cobwebs. Another unique sounding gem you'll no
doubt hear during their upcoming October tour, and maybe they'll win this year's Mercury Music Prize, see them in Cardiff Uni Great Hall on 10 October

Flobots
Fight With Tools
new album 15 September
On Island Records say no more, Flobots new album is full of off the wall American charm and irony. Five strong trax here including the excellent single 'Handlebars', 'Fight With Tools' 'Mayday!!!', 'The Rhythm Method (Move)' and the finale 'Rise'. Fine material which should easily find a UK audience.

InnerPartySystem
InnerPartySystem
new album 29 September
Somewhat akin to the electro throb of The Presets, another excellent new band with a debut album are InnerPartySystem who've been unlucky to have missed out on a hit single twice recently. Interestingly, Drummer Piccone says they're much greater fans of hip-hop than you might have thought and it is producer Stuart Price who has allowed that to the fore in knocking back the production and mixing on in particular 'New Poetry' and another track simply called 'Structure'. Definately a band to watch

The Kaiser Chiefs
Never Miss A Beat
new single 6 October
The Kaisers have a unique take on stuff, there's a different approach and 'Never Miss A Beat' follows on from the rather worrying observations in 'I Predict A
Riot'. "What did you learn in school, I didn't go, why didn't you go to school, I don't know - it's cool to know nothing!" Scarey but frighteningly accurate in some parts and at 151bpm - perfect to seque from The Automatic's Steve McQueen. The chunky 130bpm Run Hide Survive Remix is a good way of stamping your authority early set too. A brilliant return

Lykke Li
Breaking It Up
new single
22 years old, Swedish and raunchy as f~ck! Following her successful Glastonbury festival debut new dates have been announced for this Autumn. 'Breaking It
Up', an edgy end of romance tune is produced by Bjorn Yttling of Peter, Bjorn & John fame and a Familjen remix accompanies. Chart chance

Metallica
The Day That Never Comes
new single 25 August
Another superb trademark Metallica guitar virtuoso intro, and 7 mins 50 seconds of Metalic quality. A somewhat worrying lyric with the hopeful promise "I will
make the day come", already high climbing on the singles chart from 36 to 19 on downloads alone 'The Day That Never Comes' is a dynamic first taste of their new album 'Death Magnetic' due Friday 12 September.

Snow Patrol
Take Back The City
new single 13 October
Hmm semi accoustic, perhaps not what you'd expect from Snow Patrol, whatever their mature songwriting talent shows through here. A momentous title,
challenging and at 4 minutes maybe radio friendly enough to get their message across "take back the City". Look out for the vid shot in East London by White Stripes Seven Nation Army video director Alex Courtes. Their new album 'A Hundred Million Suns' follows on 27 October

VV Brown
Crying Blood
new single
A talented lady who's provided songs for Sugababes and The Pussycat Dolls with a short sharp not so sweet
2 mins 28 seconds. Vanessa or VV Brown is letting off steam at 166bpm with a 'Bleeding Love' type 'Crying Blood' tune. It sounds like this romantic entanglement leaves her with few pleasant memories hence the heartbreaking title. 'Crying Blood' was written on Vanessa's one-string guitar about which we'll learn more later we're told, and a thumping rebuttal it is. She says that in writing this song about her ex, she realised she wasn't as liberated as she thought she was although these lyrics are easily empathised with so maybe she is.

Sack the Self Employed

TV, radio and movie bosses will be taking a close interest in Terry Christian's claim that he was unfairly dismissed by BBC Radio Manchester. Normally this type of case is disqualified from going to a full Employment Tribunal as self employed DJ's and Presenters have learned before that even though they may have attended the same office, sat at the same desk and used the same equipment for many years - they are deemed to be not employed. Should Terry Christian win every DJ and TV Presenter you hear and see will overnight be entitled to rights hitherto denied but in principle that should be afforded to all workers under European Law. Self employed normally use their own equipment, make their own working practices and in their own time, Terry claims the BBC instructed him to 'go softly' when interviewing Council Officials and that this instruction is evidence that he was employed. Classic Album - 1992
Hypocracy Is The Greatest Luxury
Disposable Heroes Of The Hiphopracy

We pay tribute here to one of the greatest ever album's. From start to finis one of rap's most thoughtful, analytical and finest creations - so impressed was Bono he asked Michael Franti and his Disposables to help kick off U2's Zoo TV tour. Click the image above for Franti's vid of the devastating damage caused by the irresponsible and sometimes plain evil use of 'Television'. Also featured on this masterpiece a tune simply called 'Music & Politics'. A disarming, disturbingly honest knub of all that troubles, personally and politically, the lyrics reproduced here

If ever I would stop thinking about music and politics
I would tell you that sometimes it’s easier to desire
and pursue the attention and admiration of 100 strangers
than it is to accept the love and loyalty
of those closest to me

And I would tell you that sometimes
I prefer to look at myself
through someone else’s eyes
Eyes that aren’t clouded with the tears of knowing
what an asshole I can be, as yours are.

If ever I would stop thinking about music and politics
I might be able to listen in silence to your concerns
rather than hearing everything as an accusation
or an indictment against me

I would tell you that sometimes
I use sex to avoid communication
it’s the best escape when we’re down on our luck
But I can express more emotions than laughter, anger, and let’s fuck

If ever I would stop thinking about music and politics
If ever I would stop thinking about music and politics
If ever I would stop thinking about music and politics
If ever I would stop thinking about music and politics

If ever I would stop thinking about music and politics
I would tell you that I pooped in my own dog dish
And sometimes I would rather face not eating
than face licking it clean
And admitting when I’m selfish
And I’d tell you that I’m suffering
from the worst type of loneliness
The loneliness of being misunderstood,
or more poignantly
the loneliness of being afraid
to allow myself to be understood

If ever I would stop thinking about music and politics
I would tell you that the personal revolution
is far more difficult
and is the first step in any revolution

If ever I would stop thinking about music and politics
If ever I would stop thinking about music and politics
If ever I would stop thinking about music and politics
If ever I would stop thinking about music and politics

I would tell you that music is the expression of emotion
And that politics is merely the decoy of perception.

Van Out'ed

GCap's new owners Global have wasted little time making major changes. The Red Dragon FM website has become a fill the gaps game with fifteen year veteren Jason Harrold removed from his Breakfast Show to Evenings before end of month exit and no permanent replacement yet appointed. At Global HQ, Capital FM in London Denise has Van Outen'd to go house-hunting with her new man Lee Mead. Her 'moving on' apparently nothing to do with the last two rajar radio listening surveys. Figures showed the new improved Johnny Vaughan / Denise Van Outen Breakfast Show dipped from 3rd to 4th in radio's premier league - it's the first time in it's eighteen year history KISS FM has beaten Capital. Sad Capital was London's market leader for fifteen years until 2002.

No Sell Out

Madonna couldn't shift all her Cardiff tickets and REM's Millennium Stadium gig was switched to the smaller indoor CIA venue after sluggish sales. Promoter Live Nation said about 18,000 tickets were sold for the stadium, against a capacity for the show of about 35,000.
Bob Gold, the band's European manager, said it was decided it was better for the band and the audience to move into "a smaller, more intimate venue". Blaming the general economic situation for the lack of sales he said tickets for REM's other UK shows were "satisfactory".

The government remains upbeat about Britain's chances of battling through recession, God bless 'em

British radio loses it's virginity

Fifteen years ago, Virgin Radio heralded its arrival with a fuzzy medium wave blast of Born To Be Wild, played by Aussie rock giants INXS.
Now it's new owners The Times Of India are changing its name - to Absolute Radio. "It's a really good choice," says radio industry expert Matt Deegan, creative director of Folder Media, of the new name. "It says 'this is what we do". Absolute say they'll drop the worst bits and increases the playlist tenfold with 9am to 5pm no repeat workdays.
Christian O'Connell announced the moniker by playing The Beatles' Revolution on Tuesday's breakfast show, his job safe for now while JK & Joel and Tony Hadley will be leaving the station. There will be a month long 'cross-fade' where both brand names will be used in order to sell the changes to existing listeners.
