Anna Calvi

Nice song, strong vocal, neat production... should do well.
The most oceanic female voice in many moons erupts out from nowhere with Desire, a song of lusty abandonment, of soaring, swooning, near-overwhelming
tidal construction’ – MOJO 4*

Big Talk
Getaways
new single 10 May 2011
The Killers Ronnie unleashes a solo tune... and it's not bad... some nice lyrics and guitar interplay "You say you want out, you say you want everything...." Hit potential.

The Killers’ Ronnie Vannucci will release his debut, self-titled solo album, Big Talk on July 11th via Epitaph Records. Produced by Joe Chicarelli (The Strokes, My Morning Jacket), and mixed by Alan Moulder (U2, Foo Fighters), Big Talk sees Vannucci step out from behind the drum kit of one of the biggest bands of the past ten years to show us what he’s got. The album's first single, "Getaways" will be available on iTunes May 10th.
As a songwriter with The Killers, whose writing is frequently approached collaboratively, it will come as no shock to find that Vannucci has a way with a genius song of his own. Vannucci is a true multi-instrumentalist and superb vocalist who has created an album that pays homage to some of his greatest influences. With Big Talk, Vannucci stays true to his roots while carving his own musical path.
When The Killers came off the road last February after almost nine years of back-to-back albums and touring, Vannucci saw the opportunity to get out there with his own thing, to bring his own ideas, his own voice front-and-center for the first time. “I needed to do this,” he says. “And now, having done it, it feels like the right thing to do. It all feels very natural.”
Vannucci recruited an old friend and former band mate, Taylor Milne to help in the studio and who will play lead guitar when Big Talk performs live. “Taylor really attacks things at a different angle,” he says, highlighting the guitarist’s unique style of playing. “All these really cool leads that you’ll hear on the songs are Taylor. We work on things together, but it’s his take, so sometimes it’s very different. It sounds fresh to me.”
Vannucci will take Big Talk to the stage this summer along with Milne and a full band. Ronnie Vannucci is Big Talk, which is the name of his band, the name of his album, and in a way, both what his record is about and also not what his record is about. Whatever Big Talk is or is not, there is no doubt that it will be the rock soundtrack to the summer.

The Bullitts
Landspeeder
new single 2 May 2011
"A melancholy stranger with a bullet in the chamber..." intriquing, in fact a little chilling. Another band who've set out to create something a little different, an offbeat, rhthm track, distant coldish vocal, a subtle hook... should win some new fans for The Bullitts. Promising.

Hot on the heels of their incredible debut single The Bullitts delve further into their ‘Action Adventure’ genre with their second magnificent record ‘Landspeeder’.
The fantastical new track blends a club heavy beat with Jeymes Samuel’s unique vocal styling.
His confident and self-possessed performance is driven by a guitar riff that detonates into a memorable and anthemic chorus.
The newest release is yet another remarkable musical creation from The Bullitts debut Album ‘They Die By Dawn and Other Short Stories’ which recounts the story of Amelia Sparks, an ice-cold murderess awaiting execution on death row. First heard on their hauntingly beautiful debut single ‘Close Your Eyes’ Sparks character is narrated by Lucy Liu and weaves in and out of the albums tracks revealing her story and the actions that lead to her formidable position.
The grisly events are also played out in real time on The Bullitts Twitter page (www.twitter.com/thebullitts) where Amelia’s diary is serialised in of the moment tweets - it also features an illustrious cast of actors such as Idris Elba (The Wire, Takers, Luther) who plays detective Saul Emmanuel.
The album features some of the worlds most respected and celebrated artists including Tori Amos, Jay Electronica and Mos Def. Boasting intelligent, sample free pop, with a strong visual narrative that has all the taut twists and turns of a gritty suspense film this is music to keep you on the edge of your seat!

Charli XCX
Stay Away
new single 16 May 2011
August 2008 and I really liked Charli's 'Francheskaar!'... Chas was just fifteen then and she followed with 'Emelline/Art Bitch' another impressive outing. So here's Charli in 2011 and another step forward with 'Stay Awhile' I like the arrangement but I'm not overly keen on the remixes. Nice though

Eighteen year old Brit sensation-in-the-making CHARLI XCX releases her brand new single ‘Stay Away’ on May 16th through forward-thinking indie label This is Music (Mujava; “Township Funk”, Boy 8-Bit’; “Baltic Pine”)
Born and raised in Bishop’s Stortford, Charli has recorded and performed throughout her teens, coming up through the East London warehouse rave scene, but this release marks a musical shift. With inspiration springing from Kate Bush, David LaChapelle, Justice, Patrick Wolf, James Bidgood, Hercules and Love Affair, Charli’s music explores the darker, more emotive and subversive side of pop.
Co-written and produced by Ariel Rechtshaid (Glasser, Diplo), “Stay Away” is as knock-youto-the-floor as introductions come. It combines all the majestic bluster of the 80s with distinct post-millennial production. It’s an epic and heart-wrenching song about ‘unrequited love and being tainted by someone so you can’t be around them any more’.
Available to purchase on 12 inch vinyl, the digital package also contains a heady array of remixes: Witch House originators Salem, hyped West London producer T.Williams and a massive rave remix of new track “Jungle” from Bristolian producer Phaeleh.
‘Stay Away’ is only the first taste of things to come. You will be hearing much more from this young and very talented lady in forthcoming months. Watch this space.
Track listing:
1. Stay Away (Original)
2. Stay Away (T.Williams Remix)
3. Stay Away (Salem Remix)

'Gold Dust' is doing the business and 'Louder' should follow suit... really impressed with Drumsound & Bassline Smith... they've nailed it with their mix. Top tune

Friends Electric
Fireworks
new single 13 June 2011
From Neath in South Wales... superb intro... again a new romantic-ish cool vocal... nice arrangement up to the stop starty bit... however I'm not sure the song is strong enough to cut through.

Fireworks is a clattering, chattering electro-pop beauty that not only confirms Friends Electric's promise but also signals their deadly serious intent. Fireworks is already sounding like a future classic of the genre, underpinning the dancefloor-filling euphoria of its chorus with a brooding and inescapable melancholia, and positioning the band as natural heirs to Pet Shop Boys and The Postal Service.
Friends Electric is a band spawned not by a scene, but a burning desire to make people dance. You can hear it in the pop hooks at the heart of their songs and feel it in the slinky rhythms and euphoric beats that have been filling dancefloors in their native Wales for the past two years.
Based in the former mining town of Neath – or about as far from the hip clubs of London as it’s possible to get without crossing water – Friends Electric are a quartet in their early 20s who formed their first band aged fourteen. Sneaking in to a Soulwax show a few years ago persuaded them to swap their guitars for synths, move together in to a terraced house and do jobs as diverse as delivering pizzas and engineering Abba Mania to fund the purchase of enough equipment to fill their front room.
Friends Electric’s infectious electronic-pop persuaded Frankmusik to snap them up for support and Noisettes to hire them for their first remix. Since then, the band has risen through the ranks with remixes for Kylie, Kelis, We Are Scientists and Ellie Goulding.
“These guys are incredible” – God Is In The TV
“Pure pop sugar” – RCRDLBL

Grinderman
Mickey Mouse & The Goodbye Man
new single 13 June
Sounds awesome right away... like a restrained full throttle breakdown, I love the stuttered drum and nasty bass "He sucked her and sucked her and sucked her dry..." even an "awooo". Essential Nick Cave, brilliant!

“I was Mickey Mouse! He was the big bad wolf!”
Mickey Mouse and the Goodbye Man, the new single from Grinderman, will be released on 13 June 2011. Taken from their critically acclaimed second studio album Grinderman 2, Mickey Mouse and the Goodbye Man will be available as a download and 12’’. Along with the album version of Mickey Mouse and the Goodbye Man, the 12” format will include exclusive tracks and a brand new Josh Homme remix.
“The song is about the kind of origins of extremism, terrorism. Of envy and isolation. Mickey Mouse represents the weaker, feminine, comic side of us, and the big bad wolf is the masculine side.” – Nick Cave
View the trailer for the hand drawn pencil and crayon on paper, frame by frame animated video by Ilinca Höpfner to Mickey Mouse and the Goodbye Man at: http://bit.ly/gfw5bP
“It's quite fitting that that song has an animated video because the yin-yang extremes there of the two brothers are Mickey Mouse and the big bad wolf; those are kind of cartoonish characters, so it all fits in very nicely.” – Jim Sclavunos
The video is by Ilinca Höpfner whose artwork is featured in Grinderman 2. Recently out of German art school she was discovered when she sent a black and white video for a Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds track to Nick Cave. Nick then called her to ask her to do one for a Grinderman track. “She has done this incredible job of it. Her drawings are really gorgeous things.” – Nick Cave. The rest, as they say, is history.
Grinderman play Spanish festival Primavera on 26 May and will play the UK on 24 July as part of the I'll Be Your Mirror event (co-curated by Portishead and All Tomorrow's Parties) at Alexandra Palace. Tickets are on sale at: www.atpfestival.com

Imelda May
Sneaky Freak
new single 4 May 2011
Imelda has the goods.... 'Sneaky Freak' is a cheeky song... nice brassy sound... should help establish her new album as one to get.

Imelda May, who has been enjoying fantastic chart success, will release her new single, Sneaky Freak, on April 4th through Decca Records. Sneaky Freak is the fourth single to be taken from the album ‘Mayhem’ that was released last year. Since January 2011 ‘Mayhem’ has climbed the album chart again and hit the top ten reaching number seven.
Imelda May has just completed a headline UK tour and will be taking to the stage again for a special St. Patrick’s Day gig at the Roundhouse on March 17th.
“A whip-cracker of a voice … Songs describing rumpuses, stalkers and sexual predators are delivered with oodles of energy…. dangerously rocking”

The Kills
Future Starts Slow
new single 27 June 2011
An intro with a different sounding drum track - jiggling, teasing, some neat guitar line, and then the songs away with Alison's breathy vocals... there's an intimate atmosphere to this busyness. Great record.

“Dirty, loud and intimidatingly sexy” Clash 9/10
“Future Starts Slow is possibly their best tune to date” NME
“Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince are tighter, fiercer, and wired with more raw, visceral energy than ever before” NME
“Era-defining rock from a deadly duo” The Independent
The Kills - Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart - release their new single ‘Future Starts Slow’ on June 27th 2011. The single is the second to come from the band’s critically acclaimed fourth album ‘Blood Pressures’, which was released through Domino on April 4th. It will be released on 7” / Digital Download and backed with new track ‘Raise Me’.
Pre-order the 7” here: http://www.dominorecordco.com/uk/singles/27-04-11/future-starts-slow-/
‘Future Starts Slow’ is a burst of fresh energy from the band, with a mix of unrelenting drums, Jamie Hince’s trade mark scuzzy, stabbing guitar sound and Alison Mosshart’s angular and aggressive vocals.
‘Blood Pressures’, the bands 4th LP, finds The Kills with their swagger and sass intact, but with a new thoughtfulness and depth - even a tinge of wistfulness and vulnerability - to their always compelling songwriting. As one of the most vital, striking bands recording today, The Kills' vividly unique "rock" is at once effortless, edgy and timeless.
The Kills have also confirmed a headline tour and a number of festival dates in the UK, including a sold out show at the Roundhouse London on June 3rd.
The band has invited Cat's Eyes, the new project of Faris Badwan and Rachel Zeffira, to be special guests at their Roundhouse show. Mute Records' SCUM will open that night and guest at all regional shows, with Wigan duo Brown Brogues opening at all shows except London and Manchester.
A number of festival dates have also been added, including Glastonbury (The Other Stage) and Reading & Leeds. The full list of dates is below.

Loick Essien
How We Roll
new single 19 June 2011
Yes another fine record from Tinie Tempah's mate... should top forty with ease.......
Armed with a voice that will rival the likes of Usher, Justin Timberlake and John Legend, UK pop-urban newcomer Loick Essien will release his new single ‘How We Roll’ feat. Tanya Lacey on 19th June.
Fresh from the success of his club tracks ‘Stuttering’ (featuring N-Dubz), and ‘Love Drunk’ (both huge radio hits across specialist stations 1Xtra, Kiss and Choice), having notched up a total of 1.5 million hits online AND performing for the likes of Next Model Agency and The British Fashion Council, Loick returns with his chart-friendly hit ‘How We Roll’ which features guest vocals from RCA’s recent signing Tanya Lacey and produced by hot new UK producer The White N3rd. Loick says: ‘This song is about being with a girl who is there for you through thick and thin and the feelings you develop for that girl. It’s different to what I’ve done before, and musically it shows another side to me.’
Loick started his career as a child, starring in a variety of music videos including Big Brovaz ‘OK’. His talents were spotted by MTV Select presenter Richard Blackwood who was so impressed he offered him the chance to co-present the show with him.
Most recently Loick Essien has become widely regarded as one of the most explosive talents in the industry and has featured on Bashy’s underground hits ‘When The Sky Falls’ and ‘Black Boys’. He also collaborated with Chipmunk on his infamous track ‘Beast’ and has recorded and written with some of the best urban talent around from Labrinth, N-Dubz and Naughty Boy to the likes of Lashwan Daniels, James Fauntleroy and Stargate.

The Sounds
Something To Die For
new single to be confirmed
Not sure about this tune... bombs and violence going off in the worlds hot spots... the chorus grates a little on anyone who maybe aware that we're facing a 'global challenge'. Strong arrangement... just the songs a little flacid. Sorry

By now, people know: When it comes to sassy, confident, feel-good rock ’n’ roll Sweden’s The Sounds are the gold standard. Even as they’ve evolved markedly since their 2002 breakthrough debut, Living In America, the Malmö-based quintet has remained true to their New Wave soul, delivering that perfect mix of sass and smarts, old and new, electric and electronic every time. Something To Die For is one hundred percent The Sounds. Not only did the band produce the album themselves, but they wrote and recorded it in their very own studio over much of 2010.
“It took discipline,” says Maja Ivarsson, the towheaded vocal vamp of the band, “but the sound we got was exactly what we’d been looking for, and never found, at other studios. Something kinda harsh and a little cold – it’s hard to put into words, but here we were, in our own place, listening back to what we’d recorded, and we’re like, ‘This is it!’” >From opener “It’s So Easy,” the
difference is palpable. With four on the floor, the band bangs out a pulsing track that goes from ominous to blindingly bright as it approaches the transcendent “Dance With The Devil.” Here, Maja promises to “conquer our planet with dance,” and with anthemic, electro-fueled tracks like “Better Off Dead” and “Yeah Yeah Yeah,” The Sounds may do just that.
“We’ve been interested in electronic music from the beginning,” says Jesper Anderberg, keyboardist, guitarist and other main writer. “That’s actually why a lot of us started playing music, and we wanted to emphasize that a bit more this time.” When most of the group came together in 1998 as high school students in Helsingborg, they were “club kids” says Felix. Rounded out
by bassist Johan Bengtsson and drummer Fredrik Blond, The Sounds have always displayed a healthy respect for bombastic synths and propulsive beats, but on Something To Die For, the feeling is bigger, broader and bolder. The same could be said about the band’s rocking side. Songs like “Diana” show off The Sounds’ undeniable penchant for playful post-punk, while
“The No No Song” is pure rock-pop rave-up, with Maja spitting vitriol through a vicious sneer: “It didn’t matter to you when it felt so right /And now you lost it all, well you’re not so bright.” All of it comes together perfectly on the titular song and album centerpiece, “Something To Die For” where, over the course of five and a half minutes, Jarre-like atmosphere dissolves into a speaker-crushing thump that climaxes in a winning collision of red hot guitars and icy keyboards. “It’s all about passion and dedication,” says Maja. “That’s what the title means -- it’s something to be proud of, something to stand up for … something to die for.”

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs
Trouble
new single
Liking this... great instrumental track... subtle vocal and lyric... deserves success.

Once only famous for the Jurassic relics in the Pitt Rivers museum, Oxford now has a new exciting creature roaming the streets and he goes by the name of Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs.
After releasing his previous three EP’s through the Hot Chip-affiliated Greco-Roman indie, TEED has now signed to Polydor Records and is busy putting the finishing touches to his eagerly anticipated debut album. Joining label mates such as Jamie Woon, La Roux, Klaxons and many more, it’s the perfect home for one of the tips of summer 2011.
To get the ball rolling, new single ‘Trouble’ will be on iTunes from the 2nd May, with the full release to follow on the 20th June. Sure to be another highlight in TEED’s rapidly expanding catalogue, ‘Trouble’ finds him completely immersed in the role of vocalist, singing throughout, providing the story with a genuine heartfelt quality. Of course this is paired with his trademark sub-bass, electro bounciness and washed-out synths that combine to create a stunning piece of modern dancefloor pop.
The son of an Oxford University music professor and still Oxford based, Orlando Higginbottom was lured into the countryside by the rumblings of early jump-up jungle. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs swings between overt musicality and scarily on-point dance floor intuition, ripping up gigs around the globe with his live show of bizarre instruments, glitter cannons and of course… dancing dinosaurs.
After heating up 2010 with his breakthrough tracks ‘Garden’ and ‘Household Goods’, TEED has just returned from tours of the US, UK, Japan and Europe, that included notable shows at Snowbombing, Hardfest and SXSW and a support tour with Darwin Deez. Now back, and rapidly emerging as one of the hottest live electronic music acts around, summer live dates are starting to stack up, including a headline show at London’s Scala on the 16th June.
Forget whatever else you heard – 2011 is the year of the Dinosaur.

8 songs in 2 hours...
Posted Thursday12th May 2011 - BBC.co.uk
Chris Moyles should do Talk Radio... he could talk about himself and his cronies without worrying about having to play tunes at all... Radio One has become a bastion of pretentious self gratifying hot air... today Moyles managed eight songs in two hours... that's 30 minutes of music with 90 minutes of bull... the favoured few between 6.30 & 8.30am this morning were...
The Strokes Under Cover Of Darkness
Cee-Lo Green & Wiz Khalifa Bright Lights Bigger City
Arctic Monkeys Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair
Professor Green and Lily Allen Just Be Good To Green
Katy Perry and Kanye West E.T.
My Chemical Romance Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)
Mann and 50 Cent Buzzin'
LMFAO Party Rock Anthem

That's just two UK made records on the UK's prime time new music station... one per hour... In a word... pathetic.
Just how and why has Radio One's Breakfast Show become so music-less??

Hope for Cardiff...
Posted Friday 6th May 2011 -
The good news.... No To AV, Independent Scotland and a big NO to the Cardiff Council's ruling coalition parties Lib Dems and Plaid Cymru.
The disfunctional Liberal Democrat / Plaid Cymru family which has damn near destroyed Cardiff's delicate balance of toleration must be longing for the next Cardiff Council elections when they can finally have their disastrous administration laid to rest.
The bad news.... it's a year away. So after city centre 'improvement', school closures and care system destruction the Plaid / Dems have yet another twelve months to engineer new ways of inflicting misery on Cardiffians and making living in Cardiff even more difficult and non-sensical.
