Chase & Status
Time
new single
Chase & Status return with the release of their new single ‘Time’ featuring rising star Delilah on 2nd May, out through Mercury Records. ‘Time’ follows the release of Top 5 single ‘Blind Faith’ feat. Liam Bailey, and their second album 'No More Idols', which hit the shops on Jan 31st and has been storming the charts ever since. It debuted at #2, behind Adele, and is still flying high in the top 15 of the Official UK Charts.
To coincide with the release of ‘Time’ ft Delilah, Chase & Status have teamed up with UKF and Drum & Bass Arena to give fans and enthusiasts the opportunity to try their hand at remixing a Chase & Status single. The best remix, as chosen by Will & Saul, will be included on the iTunes release of the single, as well as winning £500, a Pro Soundcloud account, T-shirts, signed CDs and VIP Chase & Status gig tickets. The stems are available to download from http://www.chaseandstatus.co.uk where you can also find further details of the competition and prizes.
Chase & Status have also just announced their autumn tour, their 5th live tour in 2 years, which kicks off in Birmingham on 6th October and includes a huge show at London’s Brixton Academy. This tour follows their sold out “No More Idols’ tour which saw them play a landmark SOLD OUT show at the London Roundhouse on March 11th. The duo Saul Milton (Chase) and Will Kennard (Status) have built up a hu
ge live following and their show is certainly one not to be missed!

Guillemots
The Basket
new single 11 April 2011
‘The Basket’ is the first single to be released from the forthcoming, eagerly awaited new Guillemots album, ‘Walk the River’. ‘The Basket’ will be released digitally on March 13th, with an impact date of April 11th. Making a feature of its freewheeling chaos, ‘The Basket’ showcases a startling marriage of melody and atmosphere, kicking off with a wall of electronic fuzz before Fyfe Dangerfield’s rousing vocals fly out of the track with manic abandon. Complex, but far from impenetrable, ‘The Basket’ boasts a soaring, sweeping chorus that places pop shoulder to shoulder with a sci-fi movie vision rendered in glorious Technicolor.
‘Walk the River’ is released April 18th on Geffen and follows the Mercury Music Prize nominated ‘Through the Windowpane’ (2006), the top ten ‘Red’ (2008) and last year's gold selling solo debut by frontman Fyfe.

Go! Team
Apollo Throwdown
new single 16 April 2011
Go! Team's best since 'Ladyflash' and 'Bottle Rocket'... like a Phil Spectre Wall Of Sound with Cheerleaders... it'll go ballistic one way or another, amazing.
“Anyone who is tired of their fantastical amalgam of old-school hip-hop, funk and pop is tired of music.” ** The Guardian
“The pure pop dream still burns bright in the hearts of The Go! Team. For that, they're as vital as they've ever been.” ** The Independent on Sunday
Apollo Throwdown is the second single from The Go! Team’s hugely acclaimed recent album Rolling Blackouts.
Having busted out a gloriously sunsoaked slice of 60s girls-in-the-garage pop on previous single Buy Nothing Day, The Go! Team flip the script with this string laden old school hip hop jam. Featuring rising Floridian rapper Dominique Young Unique, Apollo Throwdown’s intergalactic groove glows and pulses with sass and bounce, its The Go! Team at their unique and inimitable best.
Look out for remixes by Star Slinger and D/R/U/G/S, both of which feature on an exclusive Record Store day 12”.
Having sold out shows up and down the UK on their February tour, the Team take their unique, party starting, needles-in-the-red live experience further afield, first in Europe through March, them taking it to North America, Australia, and finally Japan. And then? And then it’s a summer packed full of festivals, followed by a post-summer party at London’s Coronet on 30 September

Japanese Voyeurs
Get Hole
new single new single 18 April 2011
Get Get Hole an essential part part of life eternal... this is a grungy lil tunette and should keep many a femme rockette happy, very nice tune
‘Brody Dalle aside, we haven’t seen a rock front woman blend petulance and power this convincingly since the 90’s’ - Kerrang
JV’S driving rock mixes the likes of Queens Of The Stone Age and Alice In Chains in equal measure – The Fly
Clearly been studying at the same school of rock as old skoolers Hole and L7 - Artrocker
London based alt rock quintet Japanese Voyeurs will be releasing their new single "Get Hole" on April 18th. Taken from their eagerly-awaited debut album "Yolk”, it fuses vicious riffs with Romily’s unmistakably brutal vocals. It’s exactly the kind of track that prompted the Guardian NBOTD to say ‘It’s an onslaught of noise and intense psychodrama to soundtrack the most vicious hair-flailing’
Japanese Voyeurs are Johnny Seymour (Bass), Rikki Waldron (Keys), Romily Alice (Guitar/Vocals) Steve Wilson (Drums) and Tom Lamb (Guitar).
“Yolk” was recorded with GGGarth Richardson (Rage Against The Machine/The Melvins/Jesus Lizard) in an isolated farmyard in the forests of Canada, and mixed by Alex Newport (Fudge Tunnel/At The Drive-In) in the sweat of the Brooklyn Summer. Veering from the softest caresses to the most brutal of attacks, you can feel not only the dichotomy between the seclusion of the Canadian wilderness and the strip bars of inner city New York, but the internal psychodrama that makes the record such a visceral experience.
Romily, the band’s front person sums it up perfectly “when we started out there weren’t that many new groups making heavy music, the kind of music we liked to listen to when we were growing up, we wanted to recapture that spirit and that brutality”
Japanese Voyuers are currently on a sold out UK tour with Dinosaur Pile Up and The Xcerts.

Naked & Famous
Young Blood - Magick Johnson Remix

new single 7 March 2011
Passive Me, Aggressive You Debut new album 14 March 2011 on Fiction Records
Yep this is a cool remix... lovely funky bassline and atmosphere... v.nice
“Fervent, infectious and highly hummable, this is a band armed with songs to fall in love with.” – The Fly
“Ecstatic, uplifting, thumping, pumping psych-dazed, rocked-up synth-pop that is all about affirmation.” – The Guardian
“Enraptured, velveteen synth-pop wonderment.” – NME
“Pop this good is to be celebrated and enraptured by” – Sunday Times Culture
Hotly-tipped newcomers The Naked & Famous have announced they will release their debut album ‘Passive Me, Aggressive You’ on March 14th on Fiction Records, preceded by new single ‘Young Blood’ on March 7th.
Formed in New Zealand, in various Auckland bedrooms by David Beadle, Thom Powers, Aaron Short, Jesse Wood and Alisa Xayalith, The Naked & Famous took the DIY approach, writing and recording the majority of their music in those very same suburban houses. Its loving, careworn aesthetic was preserved as the tracks were mixed and mastered in the US before release.
Their single ‘Young Blood’ became the first #1 debut in the New Zealand singles chart for three years as well as the first kiwi song to do so since the early 1990s. Their album soon followed, shooting to the top of the charts in September this year. That same month ‘Young Blood’ was released as a 7” on New York-based indie label Neon Gold. Its release led to early interest from UK radio, with Fearne Cotton and Nick Grimshaw giving the track support on Radio One along with a daytime Playlist on XFM. Their first UK single ‘Punching In A Dream’, released on Fiction in November, followed it onto the daytime playlist at XFM as well as Radio One’s In New Music We Trust playlist and earned them a flurry of plaudits in the music press and broadsheets as well as tips across the board. The Naked & Famous also feature in the influential BBC Sound of 2011 longlist of fifteen acts tipped to make it big next year.
The Naked & Famous played their first UK shows in November, which were completely sold out. They will follow up with more dates here in February including a headline NME Awards show at Heaven on February 15th.

PJ Harvey
The Glorious Land
new single 18 April 2011
‘The Glorious Land’, the second single from PJ Harvey’s ‘Let England Shake’, will be released as digital download and on 7” vinyl by Island Records on April 18th 2011. PJ Harvey’s eighth studio album was recently released to widespread international acclaim and ‘Let England Shake’ has garnered Top 10 chart positions in the UK, Australia, Denmark, France, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Sweden and Switzerland, and debuted at number 2 in Belgium & Norway.
“... more than ever, Polly Harvey was made for these times.” MOJO ****
“Let England Shake is a record that ventures deep into the heart of darkness of war itself, and its resonance throughout England’s past, present and future. 10/10” NME

Smith Westerns
Weekend
new single 2 May 2011
Cooor... 'Weekend' enters like an old glam hit... plasticy guitar line then into an almost Go! Team approach to the voacl scenario.. back in the mix, echoy and competing for attention. This is a real grower, real airy feel, the video is in slo-mo, plenty of qwik fire shots, "A girl like you goes the song...." no girl in the vid, but a few clues to the bands cultchu... a 'How To Hang Loose' book, computer game and I think a Led Zeppelin CD... A nice debut, good tune, like it.
Smith Westerns will release new album ‘Dye It Blonde’ in the UK/Europe/Japan through Weird World on Monday 2nd May 2011. It is the first release on Weird World, a new imprint of Domino to be run from the company’s London offices.
Smith Westerns are brothers Cullen and Cameron Omori (Vocals / Guitar and Bass, respectively) and Max Kakacek (Guitar.) Produced and engineered by Chris Coady (Beach House, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV On The Radio), ‘Dye It Blonde’ is the Chicago group’s first studio full-length, following 2009’s home-recorded ‘Smith Westerns’. Where that first record of rough-diamond garage-glam stomped along with reckless abandon, channeling golden hooks in thrall to Bowie and Bolan through the grimy hiss of Nuggets-era 1960s garage, ‘Dye It Blonde’ soars more majestically for its greater production values - imbuing its classic arrangements with hints of Britpop swagger and allowing its bold melodies to shine fully. The result is a collection of songs that is as audaciously grand as it is inherently weird. Monumental pop songs painted in psychedelic colours, ‘Dye It Blonde’ is an album that both perfectly encapsulates all the yearning, ambition and romance of young adulthood and belies the youth of its creators, all still under twenty-one. By way of introduction, take first single ‘Weekend’: an insanely catchy three minute bottle-rocket that effortlessly matches off-kilter, hallucinatory keys and one of the most searing, sweet guitar lines in memory with an achingly lovelorn universal sentiment, soon to soundtrack much teenage pining - "weekends are never fun unless you're around here too." Dye the whole world blonde!
‘Dye It Blonde’ will be available on CD (WEIRD001CD), vinyl (WEIRD001LP) and via digital download (WEIRD001D). The North American edition is out now via Fat Possum. The single, ‘Weekend’ will precede the album by a week on April 25th. Check out the video for ‘Weekend’ here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmmLRt0p-fg
Tracklisting:
1. Weekend 6. End Of The Night
2. Still New 7. Only One
3. Imagine Pt. 3 8. Smile
4. All Die Young 9. Dance Away
5. Fallen In Love 10. Dye The World

The Valentines
Darling, You've Gone On Fire
new single
Some good ole indie rock n roll... nice riff, indie lead guitar, crashing chord, not sure about the song... interesting edgy effect on the vocal, 3'45" can probably be edited to around 2'45". Good tune

The Valentines are a brighton based band who formed in 2009, consisting of singer Jegard, Bassist Chris Lowe, Guitarists Leader and Curtis, and drummer Carlito. Their plan from the start was to make fun, proper songs that sound like they're sprinkled in sugar and glitter... to smash melodies out for everyone to fall in love with/to. They are the embodiment of their love affair with pop music and punk music that they've had since they were little valentine babies. They were quickly picked up by lazy eye management and were handpicked to support the libertines at their famous comeback gig at the kentish forum in august 2010. they have also played on the recent babyshambles tour and have been played on radio 1, XFM, BBC 6 music, and have a live session on XFM coming up in the next few months. http://thevalentinesband.blogspot.com

Had yours yet...
A quiet suburban street, Sunday afternoon 20 March 2011,
a narrow road being narrowed again by a foot either side
and a lump being constructed
it's the end of the financial year
seven plus council workmen on double time
plus the guy stood next to me here to reassure the natives
but we've run out of money, how can we afford this anyway
if there's a need for ambulances, fire engines, the roads will be clogged up
why?
well it'll make containment easier

What's it all about?
Posted Monday 21st March 2011 - Mail On Sunday
Hard to say but it's serious. While we're busy exporting freedom and democracy across the world Peter Hitchens makes these observations about the state of our disappearing liberty...

How freedom died in Midsomer
A man has been suspended from his job, and his whole career is endangered, because he expressed an opinion.
How can we call ourselves a free country when this sort of thing happens?
Threatening someone’s livelihood is very nearly as oppressive as casting him into prison. This is the shocking thing about the Midsomer affair, that we all seem to have accepted that there is no freedom of speech here any more.
I have read with care the article about the programme’s producer Brian True-May (though I have not heard a full recording of the conversation from which it was culled). Much of what he says is undeniable fact. The villages of the Home Counties are populated almost entirely by people with the pinkish-grey skins we oddly call ‘white’.
He is stupidly wrong to say there are no pinkish-grey faces in Slough, but possibly he’s never been there and doesn’t know better. But should he be suspended for that?
I think he is being persecuted, and that is the right word, because he says he does not want to change the format of Midsomer Murders by bringing in non-pink actors.
Why is this so bad? It is, in fact, truthful, gritty realism to keep Midsomer’s cast pinkish-grey – about the only gritty realism in the series.
By contrast, look at the endless, unlikely politically correct storylines in so many other dramas. It’s all Left-wing wishful thinking, lesbian kisses, heroic transsexuals, Hindus marrying Christian vicars, happily married couples going through personality transplants so they can have affairs, etc.
Vanessa Whitburn, editor of the BBC radio soap opera The Archers, has actually said: ‘To be PC is really to be moral. It is having a correct moral stance. PC is, in fact, my moral plank.’
And nobody suspended her for that.
Nor should they have, though there’s a case for the BBC inaugurating an alternative version of The Archers free of PC, to see which gets the bigger audience.
I’d like to end by saying: ‘It’s a free country.’ But it obviously isn’t. Free
the Midsomer One. Where is Shami Chakrabarti when you need her?
