Bashy
Fantasy
new single 19 September 2010
Bashy's back utilising or as we used to say stealing Baby D's 'Let Me Be Your Fantasy'. The most incredible thing you note with this track and in fact anything
by Dizzee, Tinchy, Tinie, Dappy, Chippy, Dubby the entire genre.... is how wonderful all these individuals are... they are the greatest. Such is the state of their superinflated ego's and what are they on about... inevitably a bling and a 'shaggin'... There is nothing of any longevity to this at all is there, nothing that makes the soul feel better? It's all built on a lie... built on their self-professed greatness. What is it that Ellie Jackson missed... how can these guys have missed that we Brit-isms culturally are more likely to be impressed with a granny getting lost swimming the English channel especially as we so recently learned in South Africa that we collectively have very little to 'Shout and let it all about'. Compared to Snoop Dogg with his rich rap tones this is baby language isn't it? Full marks and more dosh for not swearing though but it's still baby language. Change in demographic not withstanding, I can't help feeling this R&B Grime grip on the upper chart echalons (Roll Deep heading for a second number one this weekend) is little more than an illusion... a Gareth Gates like mirage akin to The Wanted... mainly because of the lack of substance. Great first week sales, then quick fall off when all the non-hating followers have spent.... Then again what did Echobelly ever do???.... Basher should have no difficulty following Spektre an 'all into the top forty, in fact with ease.

I Am Arrows
Sun Comes Up Again
new album 16 August 2010
I Am Arrows is signed to Mercury Records, one of the legendary record labels so you'd get the impression this union means business. Fourteen intricately worked ideas 'Sun Comes Up Again' exudes the same kind of charm you'd garner from a Beck album. Although new single 'Green Grass' is featured there's nothing really obviously going to crack the top forty. Arrows is the new incarnation of former Razorlight drummer Andy Burrows and it sounds like he's been given the
freedom to let his imagination run wild... as background music this is fab but probably no hits in this collection.

I Blame CoCo
Quicker
new single
Mr & Mrs Sting have groomed CoCo well.... she's got the Brit caste system star aurra around her and already she's released several edgy pop songs. 'Quicker' has a little niggling left field direction to it, it's just on the edge of where you think it should go... and
"If we could only be quicker..." I probably wouldn't be fooled by that. CoCo will chart soon and maybe with this fine track. Particularly like the added variety offered with the Milk & Sugar and Brad Holland Radio Mixes. Cooooool tune

Jimmy Eat World
My Best Theory
new single 27 September 2010
Thank the Lord for Jimmy... Rock strikes back with another formidable chunk of sonic pleasure.... Jimmy Eat World's best yet... maybe ... catchy chorus over a medium paced rocker and
'My Best Theory it's already in me' offers a cute little hook.... HIT... Here's the press release... "Jimmy Eat World return with a new single ‘My Best Theory’ on 27th September. Already aired by Zane Lowe, it is taken from the band’s new album ‘Invented’, which was produced by Mark Trombino who worked with them on their breakthrough classic ‘Bleed American’. ‘Invented’ marks the band's first studio album since 2007's ‘Chase This Light’ which landed the and their highest chart position of their career at #5 on the Billboard Album Chart. Jimmy Eat World are planning to tour the UK in November."

Katy Perry
Teenage Dream
new single release date to be confirmed VIDEO
On display... the cream of Hollyweird's very best talent... not only the beautiful mag bustin' gals... but the production, the video makers, hell even the coffe and waste maintenance must be premier league times ten-ty... sweet innocent Katy makes our fag-ash Lil look like a struggling championship outfit... they're just worlds apart. No disrespect to our Lily Allen but this is major league isn't it... a Summer dominated by the fascinating intricacy of 'Califonia Gurls' and it's supremely woven vid with the awe of de Snoop Dogg on top.... and now the follow-up 'Teenage Dream'. This superb pop song is again accompanied with another epic video - this time bordering on the most sensual soft porn and aimed at multi-level targets... "like my Teenage Dream" .... the song primarily aimed at the teen market also scans for the twenty/thirty/forty/fifty somat's... since who hasn't had a teenage dream... can't be too many boys who didn't dream of chucking someone with Katy's figure on the bed and peeling off her jeans... and there he is - one lucky dude in the vid... down comes the zipper... off come the jeans.... and then... well that's it.... the Yanks don't want impede the incoming flow of cash by offending any of their fifty two differing states... but hey even at the early exit that is one celestial vision - lucky B-boy Brand eh? Let me hedge my bets here with just two words... Number One.

Tokyo Police Club
Bambi
new single 20 September 2010
Chirpy uplifting tune... some retro 80's new romantic like vocals, at just 2 mins 40 secs short and sweet... yes could win some important airplay after all Letterman Stateside is no mean feat... hit maybe

This week's Goss ...

UK Top 40 Sun 8 Aug 10
'Beautiful Monster nearly caused a fight at the weekend with potential titleholders being eyed by vexacious spirits... but there it is - Ne-Yo's latest assault on the chart firmly in at the top.

Only two UK originated tracks in the top ten... and one of them is The Wanted... nuff' said... the Top Ten of the past two/three years has become a period most consistently lacking of home grown talant since the 1950's...

Canadian band Arcade Fire's new album 'The Suburbs' deposes Eminim at the top of the UK Album Chart while Eminem & Rihanna's 'Love The Way You Lie' stays top of America's Singles Chart.

Hypocrites Unite
Posted Wednesday 10th August 2010 -
Well, it's three months since Chubbs Brown was finally bounced down from his unelected office and I've been waiting with anticipation to see who'd be the first to get me steamed up and surprise surprise... it's former MP Julie Morgan and Paul Weller.
Much as brilliance should be admired, the naming and shaming of hypocricy is equally important.
We've just had the first volley of Welsh Assembly Election literature for Election 2011... not a word of remorse... not a hint of their part in the creation of a situation in Cardiff where the overwhelmingly kind and generous majority of Cardiffians are now mere on-lookers while a minority Plaid Cymru Liberal 'Democrat' ruling coalition council is systematically vandalising our historically tolerant and multi-cultural City in the names of 'sustainability' and 'progression'.
Last weekend, I was accosted by strangers also aghast in disbelief at the latest Delme 'Bonehead' Bowen follies.
The repeated use of the innocuous and formerly harmless word 'Progressive' is designed to distract from the intent to change beyond imagination great planks of our lives which have helped the UK endure. No mention of Labour's secret mass immigration policy... well obviously they still think it secret... or "it's ok now we got with it" so much so that Brown surfaces in Kampala calling for an 'African' century. Well the mathematics of population growth leaves us in no doubt it will be - not sure what he means by it though?
Call 02920 694748 this pretend local communication says... no answer...
Call 08705 900 200 it says... this one connects and keeps you paying 10p a minute 'National Rate' while you're entertained with Paul Weller's 1991 hit 'Into Tomorrow'... now look, as fine a track as that was when many of us were overjoyed with relief at the Poll Tax Queen Mrs Thatcher's departure twenty years ago... after twenty minutes of the same twenty second snippet we gave up... now I'd really like my £2 back... National rate – here's the blurb on it from Britain.tv "these numbers begin with 087 and are charged at the national rate, and it doesn’t matter from where you are calling. The national rate numbers start at 10p per minute. Oftel, the industry’s regulator is getting concerned that some companies are deliberately using 087 numbers, just to increase their profits. So it maybe good for them if they keep you on the phone a long time, like on hold or in a queue."
This is like BT who now seemingly have cart blanche to charge you for just paying your bill... eh? If you pay by cheque just like you always did you'll now get charged... or you can sign up to direct debit and avoid the processing charge... Great because they never make any mistakes do they? Well, two flats, same building, one processing charge of £4.50... the other £1.50... Oh and who approved this system... Oh yeh the shamed bunch of 'Progressive' posers who got kicked of office in May... still in doubt... when did it become Labour policy to pay a bank boss like Sir Fred £13million.

OK back to the jam... I think I recall hearing how The Mod-Grandfather was less than enamoured with Labour in 2005 and in fact as far back as 2001, so he didn't vote red then... so he was that disilliutioned after less than four years.... OK.. let's google it... bingo Independent Interview April 2010... Paul says of the parties... "They're all the same but there's no one else to vote for but Labour", oh and 'by the way all my five children from three different mothers are educated in private schools' (that's a Tory policy isn't it, the one Bliar followed with his kiddies).
The British equivalent of the punk and new wave anti establishment phenomena of the 70's and 80's is it's modern day grime/crime equivalent... this one again built up by the deceipt of the people Paul became so disilliusioned with - the gang that embraced the ludicrous 'Cool Brittania' and 'Cool Cymru' facade - a feel-good ruse used as a tool to smoke-screen the channeling of government support in other directions such as the MOBOs... via the BBC and Channel 4.
Surprisingly Weller doesn't seem to be a fan of todays music either - it's not clear whether he alludes to the music generating clan who've never been to 'Scunthorpe' (and most likely have never heard of Weller either) or Jam descendent's like The Cribs & The Enemy. 'Come On Let's Go' Paul, at least be consistent... although inconsistent is more of a tease.
It's an interesting read if you have the time. Independent Weller Interview April 2010
