This week's post ...

Broken Bells
The Ghost Inside
new single
I've already heard the instrumental of this track utilised on BBC1 so that's a great start. Incessant bass, chunky drum and handclapped rhythm track with a falsetto-ish then straight vocal in a sweet three minute indie pop rock tune... somewhat reminds me of Arcade Fire... this is a well thought out arrangement which travels steadily to a happy climax with some nice surprises along the way. Excellent.

Funeral Party
New York Moves To The Sound Of LA
new single
Charrrrrrrrrrrge.... here comes Funeral Party spluttering, booming out in as an aggressive controled uncontroled fashion as you might imagine... maybe the most extreme madness since Keith Moon's epic drum destruction... loud crazy frenetic vocals over a mad instrumental track featuring steady bass, nagging and occasionally fuzzed lead guitar, mad drums crashing rhythm and a bit of phazing... a hectic 3'30".. probably too extreme for most programmers but this is a fine example of how to make the speakers come alive! Deserves success.

Pearl & The Puppets
Make Me Smile
new single
Pearl & Her Pupps are getting plenty of press coverage so this jaunty little semi-folkette tune 'Make Me Smile' with it's up tempo up lifting spirit could fayre well in a hot Summer... if we have one. Hit potential.

Violent Soho
Jesus Stole My Girlfriend
new single
A second consecutive single par excellence from New York band Violent Soho and 'Jesus Stole My Girlfriend' with it's grungy feel and short succinctness deserves a stab at the top forty. Top tune, should be a hit..

Liberation continues
Posted Thursday 27th May 2010 - Source BBC
Hard to imagine what it must have felt like for Berliners when the Wall came down twenty years ago but we're getting a small taste of that now.
The ever encroaching intrusion into our lives by the last Government does seem to have been immediately put into reverse by the new Coalition Government as they promised.
The ridiculous Home Information Packs (designed to aid increased Council Tax), yesterdays invite to all schools to become academies (a liberation from the authoritarianism surely designed to aid political brainwashing) and now news today of the ending of the Identity Card Scheme (surely dreamed up to aid criminalising the ordinary folk - one can make that judgement by the crazy ideas of justice dished out over the last thirteen years).
It feels like some very large clouds have disappeared...
Inevitably the Labour side will respond and you can't help feeling there'll be a catch somewhere?
One thing is plain to see, these sizemic reversals are being made in a very quietly democratic and tangibly 'British' way - one which should give the world hope.

Seasiders v Champs
Posted Monday 24th May 2010
It's worth Bluebirds fans remembering that while City conceded six goals in their two defeats against 102 point Championship Champs Newcastle Utd... there were four teams who beat them. They were Scunthorpe United 2-1, Derby County 3-0, Notts Forest 1-0 and... Blackpool 2-1.
Also worth noting that 'Pools mainman Ian Holloway also had his modestly assembled and waged players giving up Christmas to visit the less fortunate.
Legs crossed for next year.
