This week's post...

Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip with Kid A
Cauliflower
new single due September 2010
Here's a quite lovely tale of romance with a modern bent, in true neuvo young Briton stylee a tale of the girl with the cauliflower ears.... dished up with the usual Dan Le sSac and Pip aplomb and it's a rather endearing listen. This is quirky enough should Radio One give it a good chunk of airplay to become a hit.... wot we used to call novelty hit.... very nice!

This week's Goss ...

UK Top 40 Sun 1 Aug 10
Boybands are back.... JLS did it and now The Wanted go straight to the top... but how long will they stay there? So much for the demise of manufactured music...

Has there ever been a time before when two of the top ten songs are over fifty years old? The floorfilling 'We Speak No Americano' - a Spanish hit in 1956 updated by Australian producers & mixmasters Yolanda B Cool is joined by Eliza Doolittle's 'Pack Up' in the big ten. It's kinda strange to see a full dancefloor for a song near a century old, singing the chorus of a 1915 First World War marching song but many folk seem to love it as it's success proves.

Eminem's still top Stateside with his 'collaboration' with Rihanna 'Love The Way You Lie' from 'Recovery' which has now been the UK's Number One Album for four weeks.

A record 31 of the Top 40 are descending... headed downwards...

Evans loses 1mil
Posted Thursday 5th August 2010 - Source - BBC.co.uk
Chris Evans' BBC Radio 2 breakfast show has lost just over one million listeners in the past three months, according to industry body Rajar. It had 8.48 million listeners a week, down from last quarter's record 9.53 million, but still higher than his predecessor Sir Terry Wogan. Radio One brekfast man Chris Moyles has said the figures are fiddled... joke or not... Young Evans show is half an hour longer than Wogan so the comparitive figures will not be like for like unless one fifth of Evans show from 7am is eliminated from the comparison.

London Rajar's

Heart 106.2 FM is officially the Capital's number one station, after shooting ahead of the old favourite Magic 105.4 to claim the highest weekly reach. The Global-owned station posted impressive yearly and quarterly increases in the Q2 2010 RAJAR release.
Bauer's Kiss 100 is also doing well after a substantial period on period rise. The urban music station is quickly gaining ground on 95.8 Capital Radio with a total reach of more than 1.8 million listeners.
More and more listeners are tuning in to Absolute as well. Both Absolute London stations posted staggering increases during the quarter, despite being down compared with the same period last year.
Absolute also managed to increase its share of the London market in Q2, as did Kiss 100 FM and Heart 106.2 FM, while 95.8 Capital Radio is slowly seeing its share of listening decline. Bauer's Magic 105.4 and Kiss 100 FM are now dominating the highest share of the market.
In terms of average hours, only two stations managed to keep listeners for longer in Q2 2010. Once again, Kiss 100 posted stand-out results, showing that it is holding listeners for a lot longer than last quarter and last year. Its fellow Bauer station Magic also saw an increase in the amount of time people are tuning in, compared with Q1 2010.
However, on the whole, most London stations struggled to keep listeners engaged in Q2. 95.8 Capital Radio and Heart 106.2 FM both saw their average hours decrease over the year and the quarter. Absolute's London stations also noticed a drop in hours during the quarter, although they have managed a big increase on this time last year.

President Wyclef?
Posted Thursday 5th August 2010 - Source - BBC.co.uk
Hip hop star Wyclef Jean has formally registered to stand for president of his native Haiti as it rebuilds after the devastating January earthquake. Jean, who lives in New York, has said the quake motivated him to stand for the presidency. He is hugely popular in Haiti where half of the population is under 21.

Wrighty Wronged
Posted Sunday 1 August 2010 - Gold Radio
And the winners of the commercial radio kick a man when he's down award are... Gold Radio for their disdainful treatment of their former Breakfast DJ Tony Wright..... How sad are the practices of some of our household corporates... Capital Radio Group bought Touch AM in 1998 changed it to Capital Gold, were themselves taken over by GWR in 2004 and the station name changed to Gold now the owners are Global - the biggest players in the UK's commercial radio industry owning an outlet in nearly every franchise... so why do they feel the need to deceive their listeners.... their website shows Tony Wright and they must be hoping to kid people this is the Wrighty they knew years back... alas this is someone who introduces themselves as Tony.... no surname just Tony where other DJ's give their full ID... I feel certain the reasoning will be related to 'protecting their brand....' to hell with anyone else, to hell with anyone elses brand - in this case Tony Wrights brand.... they're using a Red Dragon DJ Tony Scott to voicetrack for Gold's 1-4pm Afternoon Show at the same time he's on Dragon using Wrighty's name... how desperate is that? It would be funny if it wasn't such a 'V' sign to their former Breakfast host of over ten years. When I was axed from a Sunday night show in that group some years back, my replacement was asked to announce himself as Mike only, no surname... that's how thick they think we are... we won't spot the the different voice.... uh!!! It's like re-naming Johnny Vaughn as Chris Tarrant in attempt to win back the million or so lost listeners.... That will surely be a significant chunk of reason why commercial radio and tv has struggled - their hopeless devotion to shafting people... The BEEB have had no trouble trading Jonathan Woss with Graham Norton or making an inspired choice of replacement for Adrian Chiles by hiring top stand-up comedian Jason Manford to fill his boots.
Mind-numbing behaviour - these immorals deserve each other.
