Naked & Famous
Young Blood
new single 7 March 2011
New Zealand's Naked & Famous have come up with another excellent indie anthem, raw vocals, teasy femme v echoey male, a splurge of sound, no wonder their top of the Zealand Newydd pops and surely with some Jools 'Later' exposure they'll be heading upwards here. Great track... Here's the press info...

Hotly-tipped newcomers The Naked & Famous have announced they will release their debut album ‘Passive Me, Aggressive You’ on March 14th on Fiction Records, preceded by new single ‘Young Blood’ on March 7th.
Formed in New Zealand, in various Auckland bedrooms by David Beadle, Thom Powers, Aaron Short, Jesse Wood and Alisa Xayalith, The Naked & Famous took the DIY approach, writing and recording the majority of their music in those very same suburban houses. Its loving, careworn aesthetic was preserved as the tracks were mixed and mastered in the US before release.
Their single ‘Young Blood’ became the first #1 debut in the New Zealand singles chart for three years as well as the first kiwi song to do so since the early 1990s. Their album soon followed, shooting to the top of the charts in September this year. That same month ‘Young Blood’ was released as a 7” on New York-based indie label Neon Gold. Its release led to early interest from UK radio, with Fearne Cotton and Nick Grimshaw giving the track support on Radio One along with a daytime Playlist on XFM. Their first UK single ‘Punching In A Dream’, released on Fiction in November, followed it onto the daytime playlist at XFM as well as Radio One’s In New Music We Trust playlist and earned them a flurry of plaudits in the music press and broadsheets as well as tips across the board. The Naked & Famous also feature in the influential BBC Sound of 2011 longlist of fifteen acts tipped to make it big next year.
The Naked & Famous played their first UK shows in November, which were completely sold out. They will follow up with more dates here in February including a headline NME Awards show at Heaven on February 15th.

“They rock, but with acoustic guitars, producing a harmony-filled, rootsy swagger that frames them as the British Kings Of Leon.” – Q
“Meet 2011’s best new band” – Guitarist
“The authentic sound of the Wild West of Scotland…we’re smitten.” – The Word
“A mind-blowing delight.” – Daily Star
“Scotland’s hottest new band.” – Daily Record
With a fantastic Summer of festivals, a year of endless touring and an impressive catalogue of critically acclaimed EPs under their belts, Kassidy release their highly anticipated debut album ‘Hope St.’ on 21st March on Vertigo Records, with the first official single from the album ‘I Don’t Know’ released on the same day.

Lonely Island & Akon
I Just Had Sex
new single

Why would a Hollywood A-lister like Jessica Alba, a sports legend like John McEnroe, Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively and a triple platinum artist like Akon make a song together? It can only mean the return of The Lonely Island. ‘I Just Had Sex’ uses Akon’s trademark vocals, trance synths and a rousing key change, to expound the simple ‘joy of sex’. ‘I Just Had Sex’ has already racked up a staggering 30 million views on youtube and is their most explosive digital short yet, matching previous breakout hits ‘D*ck In A Box’ ft Justin Timberlake and ‘J*zz In My Pants’.

Patrick Wolf
The City
new single 14 March 2011

Patrick Wolf releases his next single ‘The City’ on 14th March, followed by a new album in May, through Hideout Records. The single will be available for download and on limited edition 7”, with a selection of remixes available on limited edition 12”. Patrick will be touring the UK in March, including a London show at Koko on 29th March. Discussing the new single, Patrick says: “The City’ saved my life. Living in central London, I woke up one broody morning having booked some studio time. It was a hot summer’s day and in the midst of the protests against the banks and BBC6 Music closing down. Seeing how the recession had worked its way into people’s relationships and ambitions, I went to my piano and started to fight against the negative by writing in the positive..

PJ Harvey
The Words That Maketh Murder
new single 7 February 2011

The new PJ Harvey single, The Words That Maketh Murder, is out now digitally on Island Records. It will be the first release from Harvey's forthcoming album 'Let England Shake' due out February. Following the digital release, The Words That Maketh Murder will be released on 7" vinyl on 7th February backed with an exclusive track The Guns Called Me Back Again, recorded during the Let England Shake album sessions. 'Let England Shake', scheduled for release on 14th February, is Harvey's eighth studio album. The record received a 5 star review in the current issue of Q magazine and Mojo writes ‘…of all her many guises – this may be her most powerful… more than ever, Polly Harvey was made for these times.

Wolf Gang
Dancing With The Devil
new single 21 March 2011
Quite a quirky listen, I'm not sure the production's as sharp as it may be, not sure the echoey sound works as well as it could, the chop and change makes it a little disjointed... I like the vocals, I think with a more solid consistent backbeat the song may have worked better... and probably that's why I'm writing reviews of tunes rather than making them... Good though possibly not as strong as could be. Here's the pr...

“Wolf Gang’s addictive hooks & reverb-laden falsetto could soundtrack many a festival tent in 2011” – The Times
“Shiny, tuneful, arena-ready pop-rock” – The Guardian
Ahead of the upcoming tour with The Naked and Famous and SXSW performances, Wolf Gang is set to release the new single ‘Dancing With The Devil’ on 21 March through Atlantic Records. With the release of the eagerly anticipated debut album scheduled for later this year, Wolf Gang - created and fronted by multi-instrumentalist Max McElligott, is already causing quite a stir among music critics and fans alike.
This exciting, prolific and magnetising songwriter is fast becoming a must-hear sensation, receiving high-accolades from broadsheets such as The Times and The Guardian as well as making immediate inroads with Radio 1 and XFM with recent single ‘Lions In Cages’. The new single ‘Dancing With The Devil’ is yet another perfect example of Max’s extraordinary style and captivating sound.
Following the tour with The Naked And Famous, Wolf Gang will be heading out to SXSW to perform two shows – the first on Wednesday 16 March at the NME at the British Embassy and at the Neon Gold/Chess Club party on Saturday 19 March with more to be confirmed.
Wolf Gang’s debut album was recorded with producer Dave Fridmann (MGMT, Mercury Rev, Flaming Lips) and showcases just what everyone is anticipating – a ferocious pop record with an abundance of suave panache, punchy beats and heart-throttling melodies. This album is one of Fridmann’s rare collaborations with a UK artist, having heard a demo of recent single ‘Lions In Cages’ he immediately invited Max out to record the track in New York and the rest as they say, is history.
Now armed with a fifth live member, McElligott has stepped away from behind the keyboard engaging the audience with his enigmatic showmanship and as a result creates an even more electrifying show. His knack for creating a classic and colossal resonance is backed with musicians ready to fully elevate his songs. The next few months will be a whirlwind of touring for Wolf Gang (full dates below). Be sure to keep an eye out for this incredible new talent. This is only the beginning. Full tour dates:

UK Top 40Sun 30 Jan 11
Yo Ke$ha... Trans-Atlantic Chart-topper who's managed to make her hard partying sexy wild child loosely moralled lowly aspirational drugged up drunk down Valley girl image - Los Angles Valley that is - a kind of deranged Spice Girl Power roll model-monster-ish personna... a bleaugh success!

Something.

Anyway, congratulations Ke$h.

Former Brit School girl Adele takes top spot on the album chart with her new set '21'... and she's now got three tunes on Top 40.

Hard to believe it but Oasis boys Liam & Noel have been having hits for twice as long as The Beatles (before they split)... Liam's new band Beady Eye are in at 31 and the single 'The Roller' isn't officially released until 21 February...

A second new UK Indie/Rock hit enters at 32, the debut hit for London based band The Vaccines... indie rock hits are becoming so few and far between it must be similar to the way rock & roll and sixties beat groups deposed crooners and big bands... their sparsity probably denotes the changing of the guard, the end of an era... maybe...

Whiley exits Radio1
Posted 2nd February 2011 - Source BBC.co.uk
While 69 year old Grannie Nightingale defies the odds to cling on to her Radio One status it has been announced that 45 year old dj/presenter Jo Whiley will be leaving Radio 1 after 17 years to begin a new three-nights-a-week show on Radio 2 as part of a BBC reshuffle.
In April, Whiley's weekend show on Radio 1 will go to 29 year old Caerdydd lad Huw Stephens whose father Meic Stephens, the Welsh author and literary journalist
(Literature Director of the Welsh Arts Council and Professor of Journalism and Creative Writing at the University of Glamorgan in Wales) must be knocked out to see his son firmly established on the UK's cultural centre stage.
Whiley will take-over Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie's Radio 2 evening show which will be no more as they will move to digital station 6 Music.
The duo, whose show began in 2007, will front the daily three-hour 1300 slot.
Whiley said she had "loved working at Radio 1".
"It's given me opportunities I could only have dreamt of - Coldplay's first Live Lounge, Arctic Monkeys covering Girls Aloud's Love Machine, Jay-Z performing live in my own lounge." She said she had "even measured the distance between Bono's nipples live on air - don't ask".
Whiley had fronted the late-morning Radio 1 slot since 2001 but was moved to weekends in 2009, when she was replaced by 29 year old Fearne Cotton.
Radio 2 and 6 Music controller Bob Shennan said Radcliffe and Maconie's new show was
"another big moment in the history of 6 Music".
"Mark and Stuart's arrival will help us build on the phenomenal success of the past 12 months," he added.
Figures released by industry body Rajar in October showed 1.2 million people listened to the station each week - up from 624,000 the previous year.
In July, it was announced that a campaign to save the station had been successful after BBC director general Mark Thompson had earlier announced plans to scrap it. Radcliffe, who is to present a new late-night Radio 2 show on Tuesdays, said he and Maconie
"feel like we have signed up to the future in a big way".
"The music policy of 6 is right up our street with its blend of heritage tracks and emerging new talent."

Foo's tease again
Posted 2nd February 2011 - Source FooFighters.FM
With the recently leaked snippet of opener Bridge Burning having surpassed 500,000 plays in one week, Foo Fighters have now unleashed a second morsel of hard rock goodness from their upcoming seventh studio album, out Monday 11th April.
For another several seconds of new material head to foofighters.fm and move the virtual tuner to 101.5
The album received its first public airing at a surprise gig Friday 28th January at the minuscule Velvet Jones club in California's exclusively wealthy Santa Barbara, where the band ripped through the entire still untitled seventh record from start to finish.
Produced by Butch Vig and mixed by Alan Moulder, the record recorded entirely on analog tape in the garage of Dave Grohl's home in California's San Fernando Valley. The new record also marks the Foo Fighters' first full length effort with legendary producer Butch Vig, who produced new tracks Wheels and Word Forward on 2009's Greatest Hits and with whom Dave Grohl (of course) first worked on Nirvana's classic Nevermind.
Nirvana co-founder Krist Novoselic also makes a cameo, contributing bass and accordion to I Should Have Known while former Nirvana touring guitarist and longtime extended FF family member Pat Smear now joins the permanent FF core of Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel and Chris Shiflett.

Blue for UK
Posted 30th January 2011 - Source BBC.co.uk
Pop group Blue will represent the UK in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest, it has been announced.
The group, best known for hits such as One Love and All Rise, will sing their new single I Can for the competition in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Last year, the band who disbanded in 2005, reformed for a series of gigs.
Band member Simon Webbe said: "I've always wanted to represent my country, so this is a truly exciting experience for Blue."
The group formed in 2000 and since then have sold more than 13 million records, won two Brit Awards and had three number one singles.
Duncan James said the band are celebrating their 20th year together and thought participating in the annual contest seemed "a great way to mark the occasion".
A one-hour documentary, showing Blue's preparation for the Eurovision Song Contest, will be broadcast on BBC One in April.
It will feature them recording the single, travelling to Europe to promote the entry, and receiving advice from fellow artists in the music business.
BBC head of entertainment and events Katie Taylor said: "We're enormously pleased to have found an act that not only meets but exceeds all the criteria for a great entry. "Blue are the perfect choice and we're so proud to have them representing us at this year's Eurovision Song Contest."
Last year Germany's entry Lena Mayer-Landrut, emerged triumphant at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Teenager Josh Dubovie, who represented the UK with a song penned by Pete Waterman, scored just 10 points, coming last.
The Eurovision Song Competition will take place on 14 May and be broadcast live on BBC One, with commentary by Graham Norton.
