Chase & Status with Liam Bailey
Blind Faith
new single 24 January 2011
Quality again from C&S so what's missing? A certain soul, something that'll really carry people. I think 'End Credits' had it, the blend of melody, against a tight drum and bass urgency set with the 'Harry Brown' movie... irresistable. 'Blind Faith'... it's a little less focussed and in being so less targetted...maybe... Chase & Status are a great unit but they'll need to capitalise with big pop hits quickly.... Here's the pr... Chase & Status return with the release of Blind Faith featuring rising star Liam Bailey on the 24th January, out through Vertigo Records. The cross-over dub-step smash is sure to be another hit for the duo, Will Kennard and Saul Milton, and precedes the release of their highly anticipated second album No More Idols out on January 31st. The album release is followed by their fourth live headline tour the 'No More Idols Tour' and kicks off in Southampton on the 9th March. Their most recent single Hypest Hype was released as a free download last week and was described by the Guardian Guide as the "best thing I've heard this decade, it exceeded all expectations, with over 50,000 people downloading in its first week". Before that, Chase & Status released the top ten smashes 'End Credits' ft Plan B and 'Let You Go' ft Mali as well as the street single 'Heavy', the critically acclaimed collaboration between Dizzee Rascal and Chase & Status. Chase & Status released their Gold debut album More Than A Lot in October 2008, through Independent label RAM Records. Since then, they have been touring constantly and bringing their incredible live show to over a million people this year already. They have had 2 sold out tours in 2010 and sold out the London Kentish Town Forum last month. Add to this, they headlined many of the UK and Europe's major festivals and cause pandemonium where ever they go see a glimpse of their live show in their 'Hypest Hype' video live at youtube.com/chaseandstatustv. Chase & Status also won a Q Award for Best Video and have been nominated for Critics Choice Festival Headliner at the UK Festival Awards. Whether it is Drum & Bass, Hip-Hop, or Dubstep, the duo's versatility has enabled them to become leaders within the most cutting edge genres. In the past 18 months their production work includes some highly-praised remix work for Jay Z and The Prodigy's recent comeback and the twosome produced a bunch of tracks on Rihanna's 4th album 'Rated R'.

Hold On To Your Misery
new single
A nice little tune but I'm not sure 'Hold On To Your Misery' as a chorus is going to catch on.... it's the kinda song that'll need a gimmick... "Hold on to your neurosis...". I think this lass has got some talent but I just can't see this song catching... unless we are all miserable... which I doubt we are. Nice start. Here's the pr....
‘The deal-clincher in Blay’s talent bank is her ability to convey relish, menace, a desire to experiment and the sense that her work is always teetering on the edge of chaos, all set to melodies to die for. Watch her go.’ Sunday Times Culture
‘CocknBullKid is the Candi Staton for the MacBook generation…standout track ‘Misery’ is a mixture of self-doubt and ambition set to a storming disco beat.’ NME
‘ – a serious one to watch’ The Sun
CocknBullKid is poised and ready to take on 2011 and what better way to kick things off than with the massive single ‘Hold On to Your Misery’?
We all know and cherish Miss Anita Blay – from early one off 7”’s exciting the senses, her potential to grow from coolness of the underground to a true pop sensation has always been huge. Now she’s up there with the new crop of truly exciting and talented British girls and boy, has it been worth the wait.
Where 2010 was all about the planning, the writing, the studio, the touring (with Marina & Kele just lately to name but a couple), next year holds big things for CocknBullKid. Following ‘One Eye Closed’ which enjoyed superb radio support at R1, 6 Music, XFM, NME and Q, ‘Hold On To Your Misery’ is an out and out smash of a pop song, whilst retaining that distinctive cool and sassy CocknBullKid sound. It’s what Blay calls 'an anti-anthem'. "It's about stopping putting so much value on being happy. When I'm happy, things start to drop. Sometimes you have to go back to that point when you're 14 and you think everyone hates you." Her debut album ‘Adulthood’ is due in April and no–one could even begin to deny that she’s completely nailed it. Co-written by Chilly Gonzales and produced by Liam Howe, it’s fast becoming apparent that CocknBullKid is in possession of the most interesting, credible pop record of next year.

Mona
Teenager
new single
A good traditional indie pop rocker from a band who are already raising eyebrows and foot stomping feet. Catchy tune 'Mona' could well make inroads come
2011.... I hope so.

Neon
Animal
new single 6 February 2011
Another top track from the USA.... there's a good chance this will be the new band we're waiting for... top single.... here's the pr

NEON TREES - THE BIGGEST ROCK BAND IN AMERICA RIGHT NOW!
Their debut single 'Animal' has sold over 1 Million copies in the US so far, and will be released in the UK on 6th February.
Their debut album 'Habits' will be released on Mercury Records in February 2011.
Neon Trees hail from Provo, Utah and were signed to Mercury Records US after been spotted by an A&R man supporting The Killers. They were hand picked for that support slot by Killers drummer Ronnie. The band have been touring the US all summer, including a stint on Lollapalooza. Radio 1 have been the bands #1 supporters in the UK so far, with Zane Lowe giving Animal a play a week for the last four weeks and Fearne Cotton giving the single its debut daytime play on her show this morning.
Zane Lowe '....we know this band are gonna be HUGE.'
'Habits' is filled with Eighties pop meshed with bombastic alt-rock choruses like the Killers playing backup for Duran Duran. "Your Surrender" is a U2-style singalong, "1983" is a bratty dose of keyboard-driven pop punk and Hot 100 single "Animal" is an irresistibly catchy lovesick dance tune. Rolling Stone
Rocks like The Killers, Athlete and Kings of Leon - Alternative Press
"Habits has the electro-trappings of acts like the Killers, ... But the Trees' sound is equally indebted to the stadium - sized gestures of Bruce Springsteen." - Alternative Press
Melding pop-punk riffs with a tinge of electro, alternative rock act Neon Trees bring the fist-pumps to the dance floor on debut album 'Habits' - Billboard

Noah & The Whale
L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.
new single 28 February 2011
As bizarre as ever, a real diversity treat, a medium paced kind of folk rock with a big bass drum. The album, Last Night On Earth was recorded between a synagogue in Bethnal Green and studios in and around Los Angeles. The album was co-produced by Noah And The Whale's Charlie Fink and Jason Lader. Here's the pr...

PJ Harvey
Let England Shake
new album 14 February 2011
"Let it burn, let it burn...." and I have a feeling Polly would be happy to let it burn... she's right on the edge again and it seems to me destructive sentiment like this rarely gets the response it should. Here's the pr....
PJ Harvey's eighth studio album ‘Let England Shake’ is set to be released on 14.02.2011 through Island Records.
The album was recorded in a 19th Century church in Dorset with long time collaborator Flood who co-produced the album with PJ Harvey, John Parish and Mick Harvey. ‘Let England Shake’ was also mixed by Flood.‘Written On The Forehead’ is the first track to be premiered from the album, as an exclusive stream on PJHarvey.net. It is the first of what is planned to be a series of sneak peeks of the new album on PJHarvey.net, which will be in the form of audio, video and pictures.

The Streets
Going Through Hell
new single
Phew tough one... I've read an early review of Streets new album and it's very favourable... Mike Skinner certainly has a way with words and this is as white edgy as some of his rap inspirations but 'Going Through Hell' should sit easily alongside Eminem & Rihanna's 'Love The Way You Lie'... perhaps a hot babe like Rihanna may knock it's chances up a bit because I have a feeling 'Hell' will struggle... is it a bit too cluttered and clunky... not sure but top forty shouldn't be a problem, top twenty maybe difficult

The Vaccines
Post Break-Up Sex / We're Happening
new single
The Vaccines are to me very much the new Ramones and this edgy lead track 'Post Break-Up Sex' should certainly find an audience amused or entertained by the lyric. Track 2 'We're Happening' confirms The Vaccines ones to watch status. Top new indie rock.. should be chartbound...

Villagers
Becoming A Jackal
new single
This is a superb new record, poignant vocals illuminate a soft accoustic patchwork fo edginess... 'Jackal'... Yes I can see these guys on Later With Jools and reaping extra sales manyfold.... deserving of massive success. Excellent

This week's Goss ...

UK Top 40Sun 19 Dec 10
So despite having to drop the title 'Many Of Horror'... one of the three words being deemed too awkward for the seventeen million X-Factor audience to cope with... Matt Cordle's renamed 'When We Collide' has sold 493,000 copies in it's first week and given Biffy Clyro their first number one song... Matt is in at No.1 while Biffy's original, a number 20 hit
back in January is back bigger at 9.

Intriguing to know specifically why X-Factor couldn't allow 'Many Of Horror', perhaps they thought Grannies wouldn't buy a horror song - I'd like to have been a fly on the wall at those meetings!

X-Factor will be pleased they moved Christmas Day to Saturday meaning the Facebook campaigns to prevent their Christmas number one-ing wer severely handicapped... because you would have thought this was Christmas week wouldn't you? Anyway, even if you added the sales of Rihanna & Drake 110k, Biffy 40k, John Cage and The Trashmen together Cardle would still have come out top... spoiling XF's party once was a sound idea, especially with Rage but is it really necessary to turn it into an annual event quadrupling the contenders each year.

With 1.4 million sales - 330,000 in the past seven days Take That's 'Progress' is number one album for a fifth week while Ms Perry's 'Firework' is still atop the USA.

Strangely in this new skint economic environment we find ourselves in 'Silence' is the new 'Noise'... Alexandra Burke's reworked album track 'The Silence' entered at 16 last week but plumets to 36 this week. Billed as Cage Against The Machine, '4'33"' a composition by the late American composer John Cage is in at 21. Cage wanted us to savour an ordered silence by "allowing us to absorb the sounds around us". Witness BBC4 despatching more of our licence fee on this mind-boggling King's new clothes concept on YouTube here. Many think it's a dirgy over extended cover of Royal British Legion's 'Two Minute Silence' which made No.20 last month.

Did you enjoy that??? Can I have my money back please?

Another strange thing... a sign of the economic collapse? It's the Christmas chart with only four Christmas songs, two if you exclude Mariah and The Pogues. Coldplay's 'Christmas Lights' drops from a high of 13 to 17 while Slipknow & Stone Sour singer Corey Taylor gets a less than festive 'X=M@$' in at 38.

Merry Christmas Ebenezer.

Ed Schmiliband
Posted Wednesday 22nd December 2010 - Source BBC.co.uk
After Labour's thirteen years of helping the rich get richer, you know those well-deserving public servants like Peter Schmandelson something has made Ed Schmiliband stir... it's the notion that the Conservative / Liberal Democrat coalition government is a sham...
Nooooo!
What are these political elites like... they think we're all that stupid that we didn't spot John Hutton heading a ConDem government commission into public sector pensions... oh and what party does John Hutton belong to... the Labour Party... was he expelled for collaborating... no.
Let's go back a little John Birt was the 1992 Tory appointed BBC Director General who's main job seemed to be to batter and so demoralise the BBC as part of a campaign against it's independence, the Beeb would just be grateful to remain in existence... oh and then in 2001 Tony Blair appointed Birt as his personal advisor, for what was termed "Blue Skies thinking".
Blue Skies thinking eh?
This probably led to the creation of the brainwashing machinary of BBC3, BBC4, Radio1Extra, CBeebies, CBBC... yeah that fits with 'Blue Skies thinking' - get 'em while their young.. and in their '... Youth'.
Sick bastards and there's so many more examples.
We've learned much about sham... especially from the previous government... but not from Thatcher - at least she called a spade a spade and you kind of expect sham from the Tories - money looking after money - but not from the most righteous of the righteous.
And these righteous anal retentives are always so quiet on the war in Iraq, an illegal war that has according to the United Nations left 740,000 widows and destroyed four and a half million homes... hard to forget that one... thank God for wikileaks.
Come Ed tell us some more about sham.

Dead Dragon FM
Posted Sunday 19th December 2010 -
As you may know Red Dragon FM is due to be binned and rebranded as 97.4 & 103.2 Capital FM on 3 January 2011 as part of a merger of Global Radio's Hit Music and Galaxy networks to form the nine-station 'Capital Network'. As part of the changes, Red Dragon's local programming will be cut to seven hours on weekdays and four hours at weekends with networked output from London introduced at all other times. Current breakfast presenters former GWR duo Kam Kelly & Sally Bailey and Swansea born drivetime presenter 32 year old Leigh Jones will all retain their jobs on the relaunched station while 24 year old Plymouth lad Matt Lissack will become a weekend breakfast presenter. Tony Scott, Jordan & Niall Foster will lose their jobs and will present their final shows at the end of December.

One senior DJ told me that these changes are all about editorial control... which the Government needs to assert through it's narrowing of the tv and radio landscape and done deals with commercial benefactors... if you saw the new John Pilger film 'The War You Don't See' you will get a clear idea of how all media employees are afraid of endangering their job by stepping out of line even by asking sometimes obvious questions. Senior level editorial control will become increasingly important as the oncoming depression deepens so we'll more easily have our attention diverted to X-Factor, Strictly and as much celebrity mind-numbing as they can throw at us rather than allow us time to ask considered questions on where has all the council tax money gone - and where is the promised road salt.
Nevertheless in entreprenial radio heaven it's a certainty that right now someone is planning a new radio station that will again embrace heritage name of Red Dragon FM (perhaps with a different spelling) and return us to the core concept of having a local radio station.
