Never mind England winning the World Cup... England hosting the World Cup seems an eternity away... it's like waiting for a happy storyline in Eastenders (you know something normal well adjusted...) and it's not going to happen.
This week's scenes of undignified last minute grovelling were kind of stomach churning even before the award announcement. The BBC's position that they had to broadcast the offensive edition of 'Panorama' before the vote is obviously nonsense... why did they have to? If they'd shown it this week or any week the questions the programme raised are just as valid. .
LThere be some BBC backsides kicked I am sure... a golden pr opportunity missed... if they'd timed the broadcast for this week viewers would more likely be on the Beeb's side... oh but had England had been successful are we to believe the BBC would have not shown the programme - it having been a waste of money? I rather doubt it - they've been chasing FIFA for a long time.
Then there is the obvious conclusion that aside from any shenanighans the best bid won... Russia with it's 250 million population... that's a big country... it'll be the biggest country to host the event. Technical goo-gaaa aside surely the fairest winner for 2018... moving along to Qatar with a population of 1.3 million - that's two thirds the size of Wales... the only thing we don't know is how much money and who's bank accounts.
So who didn't vote for the English bid??? It makes uneasy reading... two French voters, one German, the USA... in fact excepting England's Geoff Thompson just one of her mates rallied to the call - and it seems there is confusion over who that is - whether it was the Japanese member.
Is politics involved... well our Prime Minister and Prince were dealing on England's behalf... so undoubtedly the same would apply for the other bidders...
All the more bizarre that, the timing being as it is within days a British MP's assistant - a 25 year old femme fatale is arrested and accused of spying for Russia... coincidence???
