Arcade Fire
The Suburbs
new single 20 December 2010
Just saw these guys on Later... great performance... the arrangements are superb. Here's a really strong traditional sounding single from Arcade Fire... almost Kinks-ish... a great album and much requested act... it seems that along with Ting Tings and numerous others, indie acts are finding it tough up against the brick wall of MOBO music. 'The Suburbs' deserves top ten, even in this r&b, grime & x-factor singles world... better it deserves top five. Here's the pr....

The Bees
Winter Rose
new single 20 December 2010
'Chicken Payback' time... really like this band... the Bees are near oozing quality with an off the wall approach... From their fourth album 'Every Step's A Yes' - 'Winter Rose' is again on the edge and a perfect release pre-Christmas... hopefully a top forty hit

Buckcherry
Dead
new single 6 December 2010
A top traditional four minute rocker... great single. deserves top twenty.

Christian TV
When She Turns 18
new single early 2011
Well this is a surprise, a thumping drum track attracts your attention right away and what's this "When she turns 18, she'll choose between me and you...and guess who she's gonna do" So get real old man!! It goes on "She's trying to get to LA, she's gotta get away..." It's not a bad lyric but it's a bit of cliche made a nonsense of by Taylor Momsen who's been groomed by her folks since she was born... nevertheless this is a strong song and has obvious hit potential. Here's the pr...
Never one to be shy about locking his place down in the scheme of things, newest Universal Records artist, Christian Berishaj, AKA Christian TV is making his presence known in a hurry. His inaugural single and video for the label, the sizzling “When She Turns 18” already has hearts pounding and tongues wagging, with Entertainment Weekly’s online pulse-takers calling the scorching hit a ‘smash’. As for the vid – another online temperature-taker hails it as a sultry, suggestive masterpiece… ‘Anything but saintly.’ The single is released early next year and comes here with remixes from LA Riot and Wideboys.

Escape The Fate
Issues (Tony Senghore Remix)

"I feel so dominated... " the Tony Senghore remix of this track from Escape The Fate fair thumps the speakers with maximum thudability even in the offbeat and it's an attractive variation. Senghore seems to have turned a fraction of the vocal into a musical instrument and it works a treat, then a Daft punk like vocal combines with a falsetto femme wale not overly represented in song but hey the lyric tells you all you need to know ".....I'm going insane". Great track.
Here's the pr...
Las Vegas rockers Escape The Fate have been given the remix treatment by Tony Senghore who has delivered a reworking of the band’s single ‘Issues’. The track is taken from Escape The Fate’s new self-titled album, which has been produced by Don Gilmore (Linkin Park, Bullet For My Valentine) and released last week by Interscope. The record is set to build on the massive international success of previous album This War Is Ours and confirm Escape The Fate as one of the most exciting new rock acts in the world. The band will also be joining Bullet For My Valentine on all their European and US dates in 2010 as main support.

Huski
Girl.Kill.Smile (Shine A Light Mix)
new single 2011
Really like Huski.... I have a feeling they could do something.... their remix of Arcade Fire's 'The Suburbs' is a grower and 'Girl Kill Smile' demonstrates a natty outlook with a certain pop sensibility. "I want to kill you with a smile..." This'll make a good future single, great track.

Jay-Z
The Hits Collection Volume 1
new album 8 november 2010
RHe Da Man... and he gets with Be... lucky B! Yes it's the biznezz, packed with hits, an essential addition for any hip hop collection with many of Jay-Z's most
important and most useful tracks on one CD. Mo dosh for the brother.
99 Problems Prodigy Remix
I frequently get requests for Jay-Z's original of '99 Problems'... it kind of leaves half the audience cold... even after the success of 'Empire State Of Mind'.... I don't know why - there's so many nasty lyrics out there which hit the right nerve... maybe it just doesn't mix with the other bits... So now a Prodigy remix.... a smart move!! Clean, dirty and instrumental - Great trax

Kassidy
Rubbergum EP
new EP 22 November 2010
These Kassidy Scots are holding the traditional indie mantra high so I wish them the best of luck. Five strong songs with an accoustic bent and a traditional celtic feel create a feelgood type of sound, these are strong tightly put together melodies "Oh my God, this time I'm gonna hit the bottle you know I can't stop crying...". 'Oh My God', 'Gambler Does The Gambler', 'That Old Song' - almost like a Western style cowboy song
"in this town" - same feel as Lily Allen's 'Not Fair', 'The Next Move On' and 'Heart' make up a highly listenable five track EP and Kassidy sit comfortably alongside Mumford & Sons.
Here's the pr....
“They rock, but with acoustic guitars, producing a harmony-filled, rootsy swagger that frames them as the British Kings Of Leon.” – Q
After a storming Summer of festival performances throughout the UK and Ireland (including Bestival, Oxygen, Latitude, Reading/Leeds and an outstanding set at T In The Park), Glaswegian alt. renegades Kassidy release their Rubbergum EP Volume 3 on November 22nd. Produced by Gang Of Four bassist Tomas McNiece, lead track 'Oh My God' is a true retro-pop profusion filled with grandeur and delight. Sat dextrously amongst a rapture of new tracks the final product is somewhat of an acoustic revolution, combining stirring vocals and impelling rhythms to create twenty minutes of pure brilliance.

Patrick Wolf
Time Of My Life
new single 6 December 2010
Sounding sweet, straight in with a mellow keyboard line and a soft melodic Wolf emerges to a cruscendo of sound slowly building into one of his strongest songs yet... from that corner of the market hit so surely by La Roux last year Wolf deserves plenty of airplay and some luck here... hit potential.
Here's the pr....
"Britain's most innovative, radical and creative pop star" says The Observer The amazing PATRICK WOLF returns on December 6 with a brand new single “Time Of My Life”, released on a brand new label, Hideout Recordings. On December 7, the day after the single release, he will play a show at London’s Bloomsbury Ballroom where he will showcase material from his forthcoming album along with a selection of classic material from his previous records. “Time Of My Life” will be available in a very limited edition 7” vinyl, a precursor to the full CD/download release of a second single in March 2011, followed by Patrick’s brand new album in May. The 7” will also feature a cover of the Leonard Cohen track ‘Anthem’ on the B side. The single and album were produced and written by Patrick Wolf and feature strings recorded at Air Studios. Further details on the album will be announced shortly. Discussing the first single, Patrick says: 'Time Of My Life' is a song that I began writing at the end of a relationship in 2006 and then finished three years later during a temporary break up in my current relationship. The new album has a direct narrative about love and optimism surviving through adversity and recession. I wanted to celebrate the love and hope I have found in the last few years. Tickets are now on sale for Patrick's London show at the Bloomsbury Ballroom on 7 December. Patrick will also be playing two warm up shows before London, on 5 December at Cardiff Club Ifor Bach (www.seetickets.com/box : phone 02920 232 199) and on 6 December at Guildford Boiler Room. Patrick is the very first signing to Hideout Recordings, a new label set up by Keith Wozencroft and Dan Keeling, which operates as a joint venture with Mercury/Universal Records. For more information about Patrick see the newly re-launched www.patrickwolf.com

The Pretty Reckless
Just Tonight
new single 26 December 2010
"Here we are and I can't think from all the pills I'm taking, start the car and take me home..." an instant impression with 18 year old Mumson's superbly mature vocal : man she's an 18 year old Courtney Love... it's frightening - she can do some damage!!! Groomed for stardom since the age of three, yes since 1995... this should do even better than her first two singles.
Here's the pr....
The Pretty Reckless release ‘Just Tonight’, the third single from their debut album ‘Light Me Up’ on 26th December through Interscope/Polydor Records, coupled with a UK headline tour. Taylor Momsen and her rock band The Pretty Reckless, have certainly made an impression on the music scene this year. Their debut album ‘Light Me Up’, produced by Kato Khandwala (Blondie, My Chemical Romance, Paramore), debuted at number 6 in the UK album charts, they’ve had two A-list records on Radio One (‘Make Me Wanna Die’ and ‘Miss Nothing’), plus they opened the 4music stage at this year’s V festival to a rapturous and large crowd.

White Lies
Bigger Than Us
new single 17 January 2011
Another great new band who deserve a big break with this excellent new track, Depeche Mode desecendents White Lies have a four minute radio mix with a vocal straight in at the intro and it's a fairly dynamic type of tune. A bit of underlying urgency with the aura of the original new romantics of thirty years back...
and hey conincidentally Duran Duran have their new album re-capturing that 1981 spirit at the prompting of it's producer, one Marc Ronson, so maybe this'll be the year for White Lies - supporting Duran??. Big hit!
Here's the pr...
White Lies have announced details of their new album Ritual, to be released through Fiction Records on 17th January 2011.
The 10-track album, produced by Alan Moulder (Smashing Pumpkins, My Bloody Valentine, Nine Inch Nails), will be preceded by a single, Bigger Than Us, on January 3rd. White Lies’ debut album, To Lose My Life, was released in January 2009, selling almost a million copies worldwide. The UK number one album scooped both ‘New Band of the Year’ accolades at the Q and Mojo awards and a number 2 slot in the NME reader’s ‘Album of the Year ‘poll.

Yasmin
On My Own
new single 24 January 2011
A fine track which should have little trouble cracking the top forty in the new year. An edginess to the "Feel the fire burning" line on top of that quite unique drum track... unique at the moment... I can easily imagine diy'ers copying it on first hearing. An instant hit, excellent. Here's the press release
She left a trailblazing mark on the hip-hop scene with her DJ skills, now Yasmin is ready to take on the world from the other side of the decks as a singer and songwriter. Having signed a record deal earlier this year with Levels Entertainment and Ministry of Sound she is preparing her debut record due for release in January 2011. Yasmin became one of the hottest names on the scene at just 21 years old when she was spotted by no other than Pharell Williams during one of her DJ sets. Before long she found herself touring along-side hip-hop heavyweights including N*E*R*D, The Cool Kids, Will.i.am, Taio Cruz and Eve. During this time Yasmin’s voice and songwriting skills were left undetected, but after studio sessions with some close friends; Labrinth (Tinie Tempah), Future Cut (Lily Allen, Devlin) and Shy FX (Dizzee Rascal), she found herself with offers for record deals on the table. Yasmin is undoubtedly one of most original new artists to come out of the UK this year. With an ethereal rawness to her voice, Yasmin evokes memories of early British trip-hop pioneers Massive Attack & Portishead; her fragility and imagination combine with lyrical wit and candid choruses which reflect her independence and genuine, unique song-writing ability. She has already got people talking about her, gracing the pages of i-D, Wonderland, The Guardian, The Independent, Time Out, Vice, Grazia, DJ Mag, Metro, The Daily Star, Front, IDJ, Mixmag, NME and RWD! Yasmin wrote the hook on her current feature on Devlins ‘Runaway’ which sees her on the A List at Radio 1 and Kiss. This along with a 17-date UK tour with Example, numerous festival DJ sets, including Ibiza Rocks with Dizzee Rascal and a killer performance with Devlin at the 1Xtra Live event at Wembley Area sees her fast becoming one of the hottest names breaking through this year. Expect big things from Yasmin in 2011 with her debut single ‘On My Own’ produced by Shy FX dropping in January.

One of my favourite recent quotes comes from Paul Weller who upon being asked what have you been up to replied... "Oh same as everyone else, trying to work out what's going on?".
Of whatever persuasion one maybe, it's getting steadily more difficult to cut through the propaganda and 'enrichment' that spews forth at us but every now and again it's possible to see a glimpse of what's to come.
Cardiff - 10pm last Saturday, 70,000 rugby fans had been in town for Wales v South Africa, thousands more for Wales Rally GB - yet as I passed one of the City Centre's focal point pubs - formerly frequented by crazy chick Charlotte Church - visible custom on display through their clear showcase windows numbered around twenty - this for a venue normally throbbing with upwards of two hundred - an eery sight at a peek hour on a Saturday night.
Thatcher's former Employment guru, 'Lord' David Young says 'many of us have never had it so good'... he's speaking for those not in debt and for those who will inevitably continue making money from the extending and intensifying misery of others.
The BBC's Children In Need should give him pause for thought - a worthwhile charity line that has over 31 years become the biggest commercial in British television.
The total funds raised have always managed to defy gravity by beating every previous years total, Sir Terry gave the impression this evening that without Take That's Albert Hall contribution last year another record total would not have registered.
By the end of this year's BBC Children In Need show the reality of the economic crisis has finally arrived with £18 million raised, £2 million less than at the same point last year = 10% down.
No disrespect to any such valient efforts to raise money for needy children but some questions need to be asked - like even in the good times how was it that Terry Wogan was paid a £10,000 'honorarium' to present it?
