The Futureheads -
new single 15 May
The Futureheads new album 'News & Tributes' is preceded by the new single 'Skip To The End', This marks a more medium paced rhythm as the Barry Hyde acknowledges "The first album was made by giddy teenage boys but this one has been made by big strong men". The brash, bold and catchy continues ... four part harmonies and edginess much in evidence as before, however this may take a few listens. XXX

Mystery Jets -
You Don't Fool Me Dennis
new single 15 May
The Mystery Jets as Uncut describes them "Purveyors of a romantic English Pop in the lineage of The Smiths and The Teardrop Explodes". Accurate and yes they're rather quaint, 'Dennis' should do far better this year, released on two 7" singles and a CD version .. look out for the Good Books cover of Dennis and the Justice Remix. XXXX

Amanda Ghost -
Blood On The Line
new single 15 May
Amanda Ghost co-writer of James Blunt's 'You're Beautiful' has quite a CV already - moved to LA for a big record deal with Warners, the debut album 'Ghost Stories' didn't really happenn but it gave Amanda a chance to rub shoulders with Stevie Nicks and Joni Mitchell. Produced by Dave McCracken of Depeche Mode and Ian Brown credits, the 'Blood On The Line' EP features the warm accoustic feminine tones you'd expect of Stevie Nicks and serves as quite an appetiser for the next album due later this year.. Secret Machines -
Lightning Blue Eyes
new single 15 May
Secret Machines new album 'The Silver Drops' hits the shops on 25 April with downloads available now. This band creates a superb atmosphere you'll hear if you visit one of their UK tour dates. Check out the awesome 'Daddy's In The Doldrums' by surfing onto their website below. 'Lightning Blue Eyes' is a fine single and at just 2'53" should pick up extra airplay. XXXx

Mew -
The Zookeepers Boy
new single 17 April
Just behind pastry, Mew are Denmark's biggest export, prog rock is back and it's made quite a return here with Bono cool to be listed among Mew's ever-growing fanbase. 'The Zookeeper's Boy' is another fine slab of lush harmonies and sophisticated musicianship, possibly still a little too clever for singles success in the UK but this is great music and if they don't crack the Top 40 with this they'll have something else up their proverbial sleeves soon. The Motorettes -
You Gotta Look The Parts
new single 8 May
Tynemouth's The Motorettes will be at Mad4it! with Kubichek! on Friday 12th May, the week this single is launched. 'You Gotta Look The Parts' is fast and furious, furious being the operative word. It's their second single for Kitchenware Records, the follow-up to 'Super Heartbeats' and with a little luck this stormer could well blaze it's way into the Top 40. XXX

O Fracas -
Follow Sue / Tarn At Ten
new single 24 April
Wait for it ... Chris O Fracas got to the last ten to be in McFly ... now while I think this is not something to be proud of it is nevertheless something of an achievement .... of sorts anyway. Marquis Cha Cha have some intriguing ideas to introduce Chris to a wider audience with the arrival of 'O Fracas Maracas' ... this is where the audience join in on percussion. That might be rather difficult normally, however 'Follow Sue' is kinda disjointed and gives an impression of thrashing chaos ... judge for yourself with Chris on tour from 18 April in Hull, Notts, Leeds, Southampton, Brum, Manchester & London. 28 Costumes -
Inside / Outside
new single tbc
Lamacq & Stevens of Radio One are fans of 28 Costumes both having championed their first album 'The Fake Death Experience'. The new single 'Inside / Outside' is a "slightly off-kilter guitar pop anthem for the disenfranchised" ???. "From the wonderers of wiggly hipped whistlechoon" ????. Now other fans of the band include Phil Jupitus of BBC 6 Music and Radio Two jock Janice Long who was sacked by Radio One for being too mumsy ... in 1988 ... about the record hmm not sure but it's definately got a kind of Pulp 'Disco 2000' intro and some shrieky vox. Jim Noir -
My Patch
new single 1 May
The very British eccentricity of Jim Noir is shown clearly on this rather brilliant new single for Atlantic Records. I think Jim Noir will one day be a regular contributor to Steve Wright In The Afternoon or maybe when The Beeb finally decide on what to do with Graham Norton Jim will be in that plan. He's the softer more melodic version of Jake Thackery (who?) / Billy Bragg. Noir's sense of humour is in evidence on every track he's recorded, he adds light to any record programme and that really is an achievement to be proud of. XXXX
