EMINEM - ENCORE new album out 11 Nov
As Madonna might have said, "If they're not talking about you what's the point?". Good question, Bush is still President, Jacko is still a nice boy and Eminem is ... well Eminem. No.1 single and an album that stormed to the top on 2 days sales of 136,000 - compare that to 23,000 for Eric Prydz recent No.1 single placing. Em's the biggest star of the moment, foul mouthed and protesting, intricate, wordy rappinghood's not too many solutions though, or did Mosh and the vid achieve it's objective? Look out for very surprising gig news before the end of the week! XXXx www.eminem.com
PAUL WELLER - THINKING OF YOU new single 15 Nov
Paul Weller's latest album Studio 150 gets a big thumbs up here and Paul's sensitive cover of Rose Royce hit Thinking Of You will make a good single. I think I would have been tempted to hold back until the first week of December and release Close To You as a Christmas single, whatever thewhole album is surprisingly tasty and there are two more covers on this new single - The Searchers Needles & Pins and Sonny Bono & Joni Mitchell's Don't Go To Strangers. Plus on the DVD the Beta Band re-mix of Wishing On A Star. XXXXx www.paulweller.com
U2 - HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB new album out 22 Nov VERTIGO single out now
Well U2 started out as Feedback in 1976, four guys who have stuck together as ideally as any schoolfriends may. 28 year's on and Vertigo sounds like a demo, how they've managed to create something with as much excitement as you'll hear on their 1980 flop I Will Follow leaves me mystified. That hunger is still with them, there can be no other band with near 30 year's under their belts who've come up with anything as energetic as this. Undeniably brilliant and frequently requested! GREEN DAY - BOULEVARD OF BROKEN DREAMS new single 29 Nov
Green Day have released an awesome album in American Idiot. Straight to number one on the album chart the second single Boulevard is a more measured than the title track which stormed into the TopTen, and this should follow it with it's catchy medium paced riffs and quirky hooks. Massive & Shame about the election result! XXXXx www.greenday.com
FATBOY SLIM - WONDERFUL NIGHT new single 29 November
This is Funky Norm with Rap supplied by Lateef (from The Bay Area), mingers and supermodels get a mention - even David Beckham! The Chief Xcel Mix, track 4 captures the mood of heading to LA's Californian coast, freeway cruising, sun-roof down, I'm there now! XXXXX www.fatboyslim.net
WHITE STRIPES - JOLENE new single 15 Nov
Is this CD going to number one? It should do, Live under Blackpool lights or if you prefer Live at The Empress Ballroom, Blackpool in January 2004. Coupled with Black Math, these two tracks are also to be found in the film/DVD. The time is right for The White Stripes to gain the 996th UK number one! XXXXx www.whitestripes.com
STATUS QUO - THINKING OF YOU new single 22 Nov
This is not a Status Quo cover of Sisiter Sledge's Thinking Of You, rather a new errr newish sounding song. Moving onto Track 3 - a conversation Rick & Francis had with Trevor Dann about the time they all nearly ended up as rivals in Court fighting over The then Nation's Favourite Radio One. Interesting stuff - Radio One stopped playing The Quo, they were too old - and Radio Two didn't play them either, but they do now - so everyone's happy ever after! XX www.statusquo.co.uk
GRAND NATIONAL - DRINK TO MOVING ON new single out now
What a surprise this is - great riff's a real sleazy, feel - nice! And a great song, almost reminiscent of the Climax Blues Band each of the three tracks included on this single is a belter! XXXXx
TOM VEK - IF YOU WANT new single 1 Nov
This is a rather beefy offering from Tom Vek, who just played a successful UK Tour and played Cardiff Barfly with The Engineers as support. Good feedback from the gig and requested already must mean they're on the right track. Talking of tracks, try track 2 'A Little Word In Your Ear' - great drums and unusual wailing vocals!! CAVE DWELLERS - MAY CONTAIN NUTS Demo available on request
Cave Dwellers, hail from Mid-Wales and have put together an intriguing seven track demo. Nice package, well planned, production a little loose but the songs are OK. Well moving in the right direction 'Billy No Mates' is quite an interesting concept, and Cossack the opening track may attract some play on The Big One, or the Big Welsh One, maybe?
