PAUL WELLER - THE FLOOR BOARDS UP new single 18 July

Quite a departure this, "choppy" as the PR has it, it's - yep it's fast and furious. 7* single features the Lynchmob remix, the CD features the video and another new track the more mellow and rather enchanting 'Oranges and Rosewater', it will be a hit! XXXx

THE PADDINGTONS - 50 TO A£
new single 11 July

The Paddingtons are finally breaking through with Panic Attack making 25 in May and this could become their first big hit. See their brand on tour starting 17th June in Aldershot, then Coventry, Middlesbrough, Wrexham, Moltin Keynes, Southend, T.Wells, Canterbury, Glastonbury Poptones Tent, Norwich, Northampton, Reading, Exeter London and Brighton XXX www.thepaddingtons.co.uk

THE EDITORS - BLOOD
new single 11 July

Having stormed into The Top 30 with their last single, the awesome Munich, new single 'Blood' will go even better. Released on the 11th July with the album 'The Back Room' in the shops on 25 July, by the time The Editors play their powerful splurge of stark electro power pop (in a Bravery type delivery) at Mad4it! on Friday 29 July they'll have a Top Twenty Single and hopefully be heading towards album success too, a record and gig not to miss! STEREOPHONICS - SUPERMAN (MHC Remixes) new single 13 these mixes 20 June

Stereophonics are right on top of their game at the moment, Dakota has become something of an anthem, and this the followup is issued in an edited Radio Mix and these two powerful dance remixes by Chris Smith and Philip Larsen. Sounding great alongside the Twisted remix of The Killers Somebody Told Me, Kelly and Co. will be unlucky if they don't get a second number one with this! XXXX www.stereophonics.com

THE MARS VOLTA - L'VIA L'VIAQUEZ new single 11 July

For some reason this reminds me of Queen, not melodically but in it's sheer creativeness. The Mars Volta have created on this track their own mini opera, of sorts, and this time the rock finale of Bohemian Rhapsody happens at the intro and the quiet bit is towards the end - quite brilliant. As a follow up to the Top 40 hit The Widow this should be a smash!. XXXX www.themarsvolta.com

THE RAVONETTES - 'LOVE IN A TRASHCAN' SAMPLER new album 11 July

Rave On sang Buddy Holly and that's exactly what The Raveonettes are doing going from strength to strength. Love In A Trashcan promises to be their biggest hit yet 'Ode To LA' already a favourite accompanied hear with a cover of My Boyfriend's Back! Interesting stuff you can see them live at Cardiff Barfly on Thursday 14 July XXXX www.theraveonettes.com

THE CHALETS - FEEL THE MACHINE new single 27 June

The Chalets debut single from their debut album is pretty powerful stuff as the title suggests. You can see The Chalets supporting The Cribs on tour this month and this single with a little luck could be featured on TOTP too! Not bad XXXX www.thechalets.com

TURNCOAT - AT THE WINDOW
new single July tbc

A rather Jilted John / Morrissey type approach here, a catchy little tune they say owes morw to Mogwai and Godspeed from five lads who although none are older than 22, they've been playing together in Brighton for near ten years. I take my hat off to them and wish them success - they deserve it for perseverance! XXXX www.turncoatmusic.co.uk

KNIGHTS - LIMOUSINE new single 29 August

Chas Jankel is the mastermind behind this new track, he of Ian Dury & The Blockheads and Quincy Jones Ai No Corrida fame. There's a very muso arrangement to this, clever syncopation - Elisabeth Valentine's teasing vocals as she utters "Stretch Limosoine", great for the end of the night when she announces "Ladies and Gentlemen please finish your drinks the bar is closed..."! XXX www.wearetheknights.com

STEPHEN FRETWELL - EMILY
new single 18 July

Mancunian Stephen Fretwell could strike it big with Emily. It's heartfelt emotion ripe for Radio 2 and Commercial Radio Mellow Moments' - a video shot in Portugal appearances coming up at Glastonbury, T- In The Park, Oxygen, V2005 and D-Percussion in Manchester. Emily has been re-recorded for single release but both single and album versions are fine accoustic chunes. XXXX www.stephenfretwell.com

HAYSEED DIXIE - A HOT PIECE OF GRASS new album 27 June

Hayseed is barking .... mad. A stupendous collection of Appalachian Green Grass, fingerpickin treatment of some more rock favourites - Green Day's 'Holiday' done Hillbilly style - where's my pipe? Saddle up for Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love - Rolf Harris will be proud, Neil Young's Rockin In The Free World, Sabbath's War Pigs, and this time appropriately at last Duelling Banjos ... nice wort if you can get it! XXXX www.hayseed-dixie.com

INTRO - THE BEST NEW MUSIC
new promo - introduction to V2's new releases

A fascinating compilation which charts the direction of V2 records - Stereophonics, Neon, Brendan Benson, The Rakes, Josh Ritter, Anne Brun, The Knife, Nitin Sawhney, Cut Copy, At The Drive-In, Wofmother, Rocket Science, Blood Brothers (awesome Love Rhymes With Hideous Car Crash), The Presets, Paul Weller, Chromeo, Charlie Mars and Mercury Rev - quite an eccentric mixture of quality, just what you'd expect from Sir Richard Branson XXXX www.v2music.com

BRENDAN BENSON - COLD HANDS
new single 4 July

This is Brendan Benson's best single yet and should receive airplay support from commercial stations and Radio 2. A beautifully charismatic tune with a catchy keyboard riff intro, and some melancholic lyrics. BB's on tour supporting Keane in the US, then at Glastonbury on Sunday 26th June, Hyde Park on 29th July, Camden Barfly on 4th July, Manchester Apollo on 5th July and T-In The Park on 9th July, XXXX www.brendanbenson.com

DEMETER - PLEASURE ISLAND
new single out 11 July
www.demeter.tv
Truth be known, I probably would, "The girls are easy and the drugs are free" ... Pleasure Island, this must be either a new reality TV show or a cynical attempt at manipulating males out of their cash to watch the free video which accompanies the CD. As you can see green-ish pantyhose, and that's about all you'll see. Seattle born Anna Mercedes and London electro innovator Andy Chatterley have created an interesting electro/warhol/bosch type atmosphere, and while I would like to see more, there's plenty of competition for T and A, not bad though. XXX

FISCHERSPOONER - NEVER WIN new single 4 July
Fischerspooner's latest album is an excellent collection of electro 05 style and this is a fine follow-up single which will no doubt fly into the Top Ten. See them support New Order at Hyde Park on June 24, then they've a six week residency at Manumission, Ibiza. Their residency will be a kind of rehersal of their new show experimenting with new ideas, visulas as well as sound design - i find the whole thing pretty exciting too XXXX www.fischerspooner.com

U2 - CITY OF BLINDING LIGHTS
new single 6 June
www.u2.com "Where The Streets Have No Name Part 2"
Bono and Geldof, U2 - one million to march on the City of Blinding Lights that is Edinburgh - well the times they are a changing - obviously the biggest contemporary band in the world and another mega-hit - but here's a Miner rave from Bandaid/Liveaid grave some of us will not forget... XXx

Coal not Dole

THE KNIFE - PASS THIS ON
new single out 13 June

"I'm in love with your Brother what's his name?" Karin and Olof, a Swedish Brother Sister duo 'making a lot of friends'! This has got Boner potential, there's a hyptnotic keyboard line, and the vocals are v. breathy / seductive. The Knife have just played Homelands and Karin will be featured on the next Royksopp album on 'What Else Is There?'. Yep I like it, brilliant XXXXx www.theknife.net

CUT COPY - FUTURE
new single out 11 July

Future is a tasty slice of electro funk. Cut Copy are an 'electro-indie' band hailing from Melbourne, and have just received rave reviews on tour supporting Mylo. Franz Ferdinand featured Future in their Radio One DJ set, it's got a kind of New Order / Kraftwerk feel, with a heavier bass which works supremely well. They'll be in the UK late June and touring Australia with Bloc Party afterwards, with a little luck Top 40! XXXX

CHROMEO vs DAFT PUNK - RAGE
remix promo

This is a fine meshing of Chromeo's Rage mixed with a little Daft Punk, I like the vocoder style vocal, and there's an edgy aggressiveness. This would make a nice single, and wouldn't be out of place in the Top 40, XXXx www.chromeo.net

UB40 - KISS & SAY GOODBYE
new single out 6 June

Hard to believe this is the same band who gave us 'Food For Thought' and 'One In Ten', or even 'Red Red Wine'. This release is absolutely pointless - UB40 destroyed The Chi-Lites 'Homely Girl' and now they've dished out the same treatment to The Manhattans 1976 hit 'Kiss & Say Goodbye' to herald the release of their 23rd Album, yawn. Why bother? x for turning up. www.ub40-dep.com
