CULPRIT ONE - I BELIEVE IN FATHER CHRISTMAS James or Culprit One knows the Beats, and this is a simple Christmas offering, definately not Carl Palmer on percussion and vocals supplied by Ben James from Versus. Look out for the Slow Graffitti album out on Wednesday 22 December - a download 'mini-album' of xmas songs – tracks from S weet Baboo, Andrew Hockey, Miracle Man and Kid Carpet as well as Culprit One.. plus maybe some more" so sayeth the mainman Johnny Rostrom - we salute you XXXX www.culpritone.com |

MANIC STREET PREACHERS - THE HOLY BIBLE 10th ANNIVERSARY SET new Double CD & DVD Set out on 6 December This is a classic and ground breaking album for The Manics and to my ears the US Mix is a must have. The whole sound seems technically a little more fine tuned, precise, more standard. That's not to say there's anything wrong with the UK version, but the US sound is a little less edgy and well worth adding to any Manics collection. There are some fine live recordings and Radio One Session tracks included all of course featuring Richie. XXXXx www.manics.co.uk |
THE KINISON - YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHO DIED new single 13 December A powerful debut, great intro, storming vocals, frenetic guitars - interesting title. Like GLC they're signed to La Salle through Atlantic Records. Kinison are supporting Blink 182 on their Arena Tour in December and their new album 'What Are You Listening To? is released on November 29. XXX www.thekinison.com

THE CONCRETES - WARM NIGHT One of Sweden's biggest musical exports since Abba, there is something quite charming about vocalist Jari Haapalainen - deliciously sexy! Seems Fine, their last single was almost traditional indie fayre, not here, remade into a shuffle version including Tuba - and it's breathtakingly fresh. Warm Night has a great Christmas feel, Lady December and the Warrior keep the Seasonal atmosphere. Maybe a surprise Top Tenner for The Concretes who you may have seen recently supporting The Thrills. BECK, JAY-Z, PHARRELL WILLIAMS - FRONTIN' ON DEBRA DJ RESET MASH UP Beck's the man with a new album in the New Year and this, well, what a mix Neptunes Pharrel Williams big hit Frontin' add a little Jay-Z and get Beck to lock it down - No.1! I wish my postie hadn't tried to post the 12" through my letter box by folding it in half - a strong attempt at delivery if somewhat unsuccessful, and a forlorn 12" sleeve on the doorstop afterwards. JIM NOIR - EANIE MEANIE new single 6 Dec Jim Noir has a feel for 60's atmospheric the like of which I've not heard in a long time. Eanie Meanie is a charming little number which zips along "If you don't give my football back, I'll get my dad on too you!" with all the panache of the Mike Flowers Pops. The instrumentla is well worth talking over as we DJ's might say, such a refreshing change and highly amusing!! XXXX www.cooldelta.co.uk |
GOOD CHARLOTTE - I JUST WANNA LIVE new single 6 December This is Good Charlotte's riposte to people who question them now living 'Lifestyles Of The Rich & Famous'. The follow-up to 'Predictable' and second single from their 'The Chronicles Of Life & Death' Album! There's a bit of attitude here and they're a bit different from the norm - Top Twenty - good stuff! SMOKEHAND - THE LAST TRAIN Take some bluesy Doors, take a smokey salloon bar, some sleezy sexual innuendo and you'll get a pretty good idea of what to expect from Smokehand - a fine authentic recapturing of sleezy fayre, Bertollt Brecht might have captured in the Alabama Song, Berlin in dangerous Germany 1930's stylee. PLANT LIFE - WHEN SHE SMILES release to be confirmed The 12" demo of cuts from 'The Return Of Jack Splash' includes some slinky, sexy grooves. These guys want to 'bring down the walls between funk, hip hop, soul and rock' and for me they do an admirable job. When She Smiles does seem to sound quite at home next to The Kinison, U2 or Kanye West. This is good stuff, XXXX www.gutrecords.com |
MARTINI HENRY RIFLES - SUPERBASTARD new album out now Put this on your DVD and you'll see an awesome video of the brilliant single 'Infomercial'. A 2 minute masterpiece now with a mesmerizing video to match. Another innovation utilized here is "the secret track at the end trick", Just when you've forgotten the CD player is on - like a bolt from hell, in comes 'Run Jimmy Run (Rude Words Here)' and hey it's a pretty good... instrumental. The Martinis most commercial to date, but still in the main absolutely uncompromising. The other great thing about The Martini's is they have to launch their records in The Fantasy Lounge! XXXX |
