ROADRUNNER UNITED -
ALL-STAR SESSIONS

new album & DVD release 10 October (Posted 14 Oct)
From the Record Company that's given us our favourite new track of the moment (the awesome Ill Nino tune 'My Pleasant Torture') this really is an all-star metal cast. A major project, probably the biggest ever Metal get-together featuring ... Slipknot, Trivium, Fear Factory, Ill Nino, Sepultura, Soulfly, Machine Head, The Accused, Killswitch, Coal Chamber, Cradle of Filth, Murderdolls, Glassjaw and bizarrely Producer Junkie XL or JXL of Elvis Presley A Little Less Conversation Remixing fame! A lavish package put together to celebrate 25 years of Roadrunner Records includes some great cross-over moments, namely Dino cazares ‘The End', and Joey Jordison's 'Tired & Lonely', the rather mellow Josh Silver tune ‘Roads' and Matthew K Heafy's ‘I Don't Wanna Be A Superhero'. All fascinating trax and a DVD showing off why Roadrunner are this year's Services To Metal (Kerrang) and ‘Best Metal Label' (Metal Hammer) Winners. XXXX www.roadrunnerrecords.co.uk
THE AUTOMATIC -
RECOVER

new single release 7 November (Posted 14 Oct)
An excellent debut for B-Unique from Cardiff's FFVinyl managed The Automatic. Recover has a very catchy chorus and the off-beat moments all the best hits have. With their second and third singles already ear-marked this could be the start of a prolonged assault on the Top 40, and with label mates The Kaiser Chiefs and The Ordinary Boys chart regulars this Ian Broudie (Lightning Seeds) produced Recover could well become The Automatic's first hit. BIG JOHN -
FEELING HUMAN

new demo available now (Posted 14 Oct)
Newport based Matthew Pimm and his chums are in search of a new drummer after their man with the musical hammer departed for University in London. It's a shame they're in a little limbo because this, their second demo continues to show some potential. The opening track Feeling Human has a catchy chorus, an unusual pace and fine vocals. Also featured here and worth hearing is Big John's version of Depeche Mode's Just Can't Get Enough – given an acoustic intro treatment and a little ambient sound f/x it's rather fetching. XXX

GREEN DAY -
JESUS OF SUBURBIA

new single released 7 November (Posted 14 Oct)
Hit number five from the brilliant American Idiot. The 9 minute album version edited for radio to 6 minutes and it is surpsrisingly listenable, Green Day's BoRhap even! After this year's sell-out stadium shows they're up there with U2 and The Rolling Stones and ‘Jesus of Suburbia' should easily see the Top Ten. XXXX www.greenday.com

KAISER CHIEFS -

EVERY TIME I DIE -
with GERARD WAY (MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE)

KILL THE MUSIC
new single released November 7

Fresh from their mini-euro-tour Every Time I Die release a new single featuring Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance, Kill The Music being dubbed party-core! The vid also features Kill Bill star Michael Madsen filmed at the Spartacus backlot at Universal Studios LA. Very loud and some singles chart potential … XXX www.everytimeidie.com

BLOODHOUND GANG –
HEFTY NINE

new album 5 September

Bloodhound Gang saucy approach to everything now reaches No.2 in the toilette … ‘Diarrhea Runs In The Family' – a 30 second answerphone audio clip! Some fine trax here demonstrate The BG's zipping between roc and electro .. ‘Uhn Tiss, Uhn Tissa, Uhn Tiss', a fine electro chune and ‘Balls Out' a very rude rock hip hopper … then there's a rather surprisingly mellow ‘No Hard Feelings' and that guy on the sleeve looks familiar! XXXx

THE DECEMBERISTS -
16 MILITARY WIVES
new single 14 November

Rough Trade have picked another bizarre but radio friendly single release here … “ America can't say no, 16 military wives …”. Very catchy, very appealing however I would question the inclusion of Tracks 3 & 4, the somewhat dour and downbeat ‘The Kingdom Of Spain' and ‘From My Own True Love'. Hit possibility, XXXx www.decemberists.com

LADYTRON –
WITCHING HOUR
new album 3 October

Ladytron are The Human League – The Next Generation. Sugar and Destroy are great slabs of pop quality and set the tone for The Witching Hour, their third album. Check out their live show on their UK Tour throughout October Leeds , Liverpool , Glasgow , Sheffield … Choice trax – International Dateline, Hi-Rise, CMYK – great! XXXx www.ladytron.com

THE RAKES –
22 GRAND JOB

new single 31 October

So it's the original album mix whichb prevails as the A-track, just as well because it is classic – observation, wit & charm with a punch and a hint of desperation – at 1'47” maybe the shortest Top Five hit ever! XXXXx

ELBOW –
LEADERS OF THE FREE WORLD

New single 7 November
Guy Garvey's got a point here, and this edit emphasizes ‘Leaders Of The Free World' as Elbow's coming of age. The title track of their superb album which includes a beautiful 2' ballad Repair Man, features Leaders in it's near six minute form – but the shorter intro punches it home sooner, Top Five XXXX

JOHN CALE –
PERFECT

new single 17 October

Ironic, snappy, dark … “I don't believe anybody these days thinks anything is perfect anymore” says John. The new John Cale album Black Acetate due fopr release shortly on EMI could herald a new chapter of success, these are a lot more commercial than some previous Cale outings and Perfect is Radio friendly. THE LIKE –
WHAT I SAY IS WHAT I MEAN

new single 14 November
I like The Like dot com has a ring to it, this all girl Los Angeles trio average age 19 already had a Hollywood movie slot two years back. See them for yourself on UK Barfly tour in November at York Fibbers, London , Birmingham , Liverpool and Cardiff Barfly (Nov 10 th ). Tennesse Thomas, Charlotte Froom and Z Berg and currently on tour with Kings of Leon and ‘What I Mean' sounds like a hit, XXXx www.ilikethelike.com

CHRISTIANSILVA –
BRING HIS HEAD

New single / mini-album out 9 November
Eight tracks in twenty minutes, mellow mood, good idea on paper but I'm not sure how this can cut through. They'll still need a format hit single and I'm not sure they'll win radio play with this, unfortunately it's kind of wall-paper.

ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI
DO THE WHIRLWIND

new single 7 November

Organ, piano, xylophone, trumpet, trombone, sax and sitar – a very unusual approach and it almost works a treat on ‘Do The Whirlwind' except just when you're expecting a lift from the funky off beat you've been getting into … stop, take it down – I think a bit of a mistake there, certainly for le dance floor – but nothing a remix couldn't sort out! XXX www.architectureinhelsinki.com

Pure Reason Revolution -
Cautionary Tales For The Brave
new mini album 3 October
These guys are trying somthing very ambitious, harking back to the days of seventies progressive rock ala Pink Floyd ... long musical tracks and deep mystical meanings ... with a bassline almost lifted from Voodoo Chile, The Intention Craft now edited to 4 mins, features intriguing male female interplay - well worth checking out on their 17 date UK tour which winds up in Nottingham on 25 October. XXX www.purereasonrevolution.com (Posted 17 October)

Status Quo -
The Party Ain't Over Yet
new single
Well what can you say ... it's ten years since Radio One banned The Quo and here they are in the Top Ten, a mammoth sold out 40th Anniversary tour ... can't stop keep rockin ... some people were born to boogie - it's in the blood. XX www.statusquo.co.uk (Posted 17 October)
