Editors - All Sparks new single 27 March Editors played at Cardiff Barfly four times last year and many's the time they played in their former guise as Snowblind so it's heartwarming to see hard work paying off. ‘The Back Room' is an axcellent album and there is a unique quality to the storming singles ‘Munich', ‘Blood' and ‘Bullets' here comes the fourth hit from the set released at the end of March with an entire tour of bigger venues sold out, London Astoria, Bristol Academy, Southampton Guildhall, Norwich UEA, Manchester Apollo, Glasgow Barrowlands ete. The Streets - When You Wasn't Famous new single 27 March I fancy Mike Skinners' The Streets have another Number One here. ‘When You Wasn't Famous' is well up to the usual standard, a biting assessment of loose women becoming less loose as they themselves become famous. You get the clean version and the F-word version on this radio promo ‘the flipside of fame's shiny coin' – “considering the amount of prang you'd done you looked amazing on CD:UK” “I realise with you the truth can be a whole lot worse than the flak, my whole life I never thought I'd see a pop star smoke crack”. New Young Pony Club - Get Lucky new single 20 March I wonder what exactly inspired the name New Young Pony Club, I bet there's an intriguing story there … this is a fine record. Two members are the creative behind this project Andy & Tahita … Tahita ‘like Eartha Kitt bawling out Iggy Pop' and Andy the bastard love child of JJ Burnell and Nile Rogers'. Get Lucky is a catchy tune and should go near Top 40, it's the follow-up to the limited edition ‘Ice Cream' which sold it's limited edition 1,000 pressings in only three days. The Upper Room - All Around This Town new single 27 February A lot of pressure on The Upper Room, hailed as one of the brightest new bands in the UK … a second and re-recorded single of ‘All Around This Town', chucnkier with a better defined intro, dark lyrics and pop melodies … rather like The Ordinary Boys I fancy they'll neeed a gimmick over and above their music to force the breakthrough. Dandi Wind - Nofuncity EP new EP 13 March Canadian outfit Dandi Wind are performance artist and animator ‘Dandilion Wind Opaine' and musical child prodigy ‘Szam Findlay' …. This is an attention grabbing blend of industrial beats, tradition rhythm and Bhangra … utilizing their animators' skill their show is also quite a spectacle akin to Peaches, Nina Hagen and Bjork pre-emptin ‘the forthcoming' 90's rave revival…' Well it could happen …. Be Your Own Pet - Adventure new single 13 March Teenagers Jamin, Jonas, Nathan and Jemina have just completed their debut album for XL Recordings produced by Steve McDonald of LA proto-grungers Red Kross. 15 fuzzy songs you will have seen previewed on their recent gigs with Zane Lowe. ‘Adventure' is a collection of riff's some may think rather disjointed but there's it's appeal, with a vid shot in Northern California's Big Bear Mountain for which the band are dressed in hunter's garb armed with bow and arrows hunting human's dressed as rabbits … “didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Big Bear ..” XXXx www.myspace.com/beyourownpetmusic (Posted 21 February) |

Larrikin Love - Edwould new single 27 March Larrikin Love released a couple of limited edition 7” singles, Six Queens/Little Boy Lost and Happy As Annie to which ‘Edwould' is the follow-up. A rocky afire you'll be hearing as they begin their first headline UK tour during Feb and March. Fractured Persona - Unspoken new album 1 March Richard Banbury aka Fritz O'Skennick geddit (schizophrenic) together with his chum Matt Evans has put together this concept album to raise money for Ashgrove School of Penarth near Cardiff, the only school for children with autistic spectrum disorder in Wales. This album has received support from Emma & James of petrified Records who've also helped with production of three video's, one for ‘Fractured Persona' was shot at The Doves Centre, Penarth (MIND) starring staff, volunteers and service users edited and produced by Angie Thomas of www.angiemation.com.
