The Zutons -
Why Won't You Give Me Your Love

new single 3 April

SingalongaZuton is coming your way soon .. It's taken a couple of years for The Zutons to record ther follow-up to 'Who Killed The Zutons' but their single pre-empts the new album 'Tired Of Hangin' Around' which includes such titles as 'Valerie', 'It's The Little Things We Do' and 'Stacey Look What You've Done!'. Produced by Stephen Street of (Kaiser Chiefs & Smiths fame) the new material will be worked at South By South West at The American Music Hall on March 16th where they'll be with King Kinky Ray Davies. Lookin' good ... XXX

Lorraine -
I Feel It
new single 6 March
Norway Nils Points is a thing of the past, this is an excellent record from one of Norways top exports. Somehow Ole Gunnar Solskaer ... nope Ole Gunnar Gundersen, Anders Winsents and Paal Myran Haaland have caught the sound of 'cool' and 'I Feel It' makes an excellent single. "We're a bit 1985 and a bit 2020 ... " well it's a bit of a mix .. Depeche Mode, New Order, Smiths, Cure and Pet Shop Boys ... there's a warm accoustic feel to their arrangement and the vocals are immediately endearing. They'll be playing UK dates soon, London Barfly 22 Feb and London 100 Club 15 March. XXX

Island Records Sampler Spring 2006
What a rosta of artistes, this sample kicks off with the excellent single 'Sewn' by The Feeling, Wolfmother 'Dimension' grabs you by the bol**cks and The Sugarbabes 'Red Dress' should be an enormous hit. Then there's RnB with David Banner and an unlikely duo of Damien Marley & Bobby Houston errr sorry Bobby Brown ... great stuff. XXXX

All American Rejects -
Move Along
new single 27 Feb album out now
The All American Rejects have just returned from their tour of South East Asia and their joint tour of the US with Fall Out Boy begins on the 15th March. Their newsingle 'Move Along' is released on 27 Feb lifted from the album of the same name and it kinda sums up the album, catchy tunefull indie pop a la Blink 182, Sum 41 .... Chartbound at some point. XXX

Gorgol Bordello -
Start Wearing Purple / Sally
single 27 Feb

Slavic stomp, metal, punk and Jamiacan dub ... extraordinary and already much requested and sung along to, maybe even slung along to. Check the album 'Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike' recorded by Nirvana Producer Steve Albini in 'glorious' analogue sound - hopefully Top Ten. XXXXx

Whirlwind Heat -
The Reagan EP
new EP 27 March
Whirlwind Heat are three chaps from Grand Rapids, Michigan who caught the ears of Jack White - you can hear the attraction. A jaunty, jerky, joyful and bizarre slant on pretty well everything - four tracks included on this EP, title track 'Reagan' (surely it must be inspired by Ron), Macho Man, Memory and I Fu*ked Up Reagan (This must be a reference to the recording of this track rather than some violent memory, although it sounds like gunshot sound effects have been added later) laugh I nearly started. Intriguing ... XX

Clearlake -
Neon
new single 27 March
Clearlake are working hard to make a break, their second album Amber includes a load of great songs among them 'Far Away' recently featured on the current Uncut's monthly compilation CD. This their new single 'Neon' is equally enthralling, targeting city grime ... see Clearlake for yourself supporting The Archie Bronson Outfit at Cardiff Barfly Friday Mad4it! on Friday 24 March. Good stuff XXX

Primal Scream -
Country Girl
new single 22 May
Bobby Gillespie and chums return with their first new album in four years on 5th June. To be precede a week earlier by the single Country Girl and around now a 'reactivation' of their 'Dirty Hits' featuring new mixes by the likes of Chemical Bros, Massive Attack, Terry Farley, The Orb and Alter Ego .. well worthy all of them. Good Shoes -
We Are Not The Same
new EP 13 March
Good Shoes are a fourpiece, the first signings to Brille Records. Tom Jones ... (a different one), Rhys Jones, Joel Cox and Steve Leach conjour up Jam like Buzzcock like riffs that rock Morden in Surrey and are threatening to jump on The Ordinary Boys bus ... this is good guitar based material but maybe they'll need an appearance on celebrity Carry On Big Brother to seperate them from the rest of the field, well thus far it hasn't harmed Preston's chances. Juliet - Abstinence new cd out now
Rhondda's Juliet feature Matthew Rhys Jones on vox, Nick Fletcher Bass, Stuart Anstee guitars and keyboards and Rhodri Morgan on Drums ... brave material with songs about the Middle East crisis and quotes from Aldous Huxley. Mew are leading the progressive rock charge but Juliet on their tails , with a bit of luck. XXX

The Vanities -
03/02/2006
new demo
Hey The Vanities are sounding better than ever ... now an Erasure like twosome featuring Adam's keyboard skills alongside Rhys persistant pulsing stage personna and these new songs are great. In particular 'The Love In Your Eyes' demonstrates a new found pop sensibility - a fine intro, a catchy song and superb arrangement with an ideal radio length of 3'20". Like many of the other songs on this demo, it's immediately impressive and on Sunday The Modern had to ask me who it was they were listening too. See for yourself at Friday Mad4it! at Cardiff Barfly on Friday 3rd March. Good material deserves good luck. XXXX
